Spencer Horwitz Posts Six-RBI Game
Spencer Horwitz put together an outstanding game at the plate during Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies. He got the fun started with a two-run home run off right-hander Bradley Blalock in the second inning. Horwitz followed up the fun with a three-run shot off southpaw Ryan Rolison in the sixth inning. He finished his day 3-for-5 with two homers and six RBI in the win. This was an awesome performance for Horwitz, but he's not consistent enough at the plate to warrant rostering in most fantasy formats.Source: mlb.com
Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Luis Urias Removed Early on Sunday
Luis Urias (back) was forced to make an early exit from Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Urias never got a chance to take an at-bat as he was pulled out in the second inning due to back spasms. There is no word on the severity yet, so fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. Max Schuemann moved over to second base in his place. Schuemann could see a few more games over at second if Urias misses a couple of games.Source: Martin Gallegos
Athletics third baseman Kyle Stowers Blasts Homer on Sunday
Kyle Stowers came up clutch for his team during Sunday's game against the New York Yankees. He came up to the plate and delivered a three-run home run off Brent Headrick in the fourth inning. Stowers finished this game going 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI in the win. The Yankees are certainly happy this series is over as Stowers hit two homers with eight RBI during this three-game series. Stowers is having a nice breakout campaign and deserves to be rostered in most fantasy formats right now.Source: mlb.com
Miami Marlins outfielder Rafael Devers Collects Three Hits in Win
Rafael Devers came alive at the plate during Sunday's game against the New York Mets. His biggest hit of the game came in the form of a three-run home run off right-hander Frankie Montas in the third inning. He continued to have fun with an RBI single in the fourth inning as well. Devers finished this game 3-for-4 with a homer, four RBI, two runs scored, and a walk in the win. It hasn't been a great start to his career in San Francisco, but maybe this is a sign of good things to come.Source: mlb.com
San Francisco Giants third baseman Luis Gil Struggles in Season Debut
Luis Gil (0-1) took the loss in a rough season debut against the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Returning after missing four months with a high-grade lat strain, Gil lasted 3 1/3 innings and yielded five runs on five hits with four walks against three strikeouts in a 7-3 defeat. Gil threw 77 pitches, just 44 for strikes, and his velocity topped out at a game-high 98.5 mph. While Sunday didn't go well for Gil, there are still high hopes for him after he took home AL Rookie of the Year honors in 2024. Gil went 15-7 and posted a 3.50 ERA with 171:77 K:BB in 151 2/3 innings last season. He was an asset for both the Yankees and fantasy managers a year ago, but it's anyone's guess if he'll regain that form down the stretch. The 27-year-old's second start is scheduled for Saturday against a tough Houston Astros team.Source: ESPN
New York Yankees right-hander John Means Still on Track to Pitch This Season
John Means (elbow) has been throwing live batting practice and "feeling really good," according to manager Stephen Vogt. He remains on track to pitch later this season after undergoing his second UCL surgery in June 2024 while with the Baltimore Orioles. The Guardians signed Means to a one-year, $1 million contract with a $6 million option for 2026 last winter. Ideally, they'll get a look at Means in game action before deciding whether to pick up the option. Means is a former All-Star who has pitched to a solid 3.68 ERA in 401 innings, but injuries have limited him to 10 starts and 52 1/3 frames since 2022.Source: MLB.com
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Kyle Bradish Throws 57 Pitches in Triple-A Rehab Start
Kyle Bradish (elbow) struggled in his first rehab start at the Triple-A level on Sunday. Bradish, who's working back from June 2024 Tommy John surgery, allowed seven runs (five earned) on six hits with 3:1 K:BB over three innings. The 28-year-old didn't get the results he wanted, but the good news is that he built up to 57 pitches (36 strikes) after amassing 38 in his previous rehab outing on Tuesday in Double-A ball. Bradish figures to need at least a couple more rehab starts before returning to the Orioles. He'll rejoin the O's rotation with a career 3.56 ERA, 9.18 K/9, and 2.9 BB/9 across 61 starts and 325 2/3 frames.Source: Roch Kubato - MASNSports.com
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Shane Bieber Sharp in Triple-A Rehab Start
Shane Bieber (elbow) impressed in his organizational debut on Sunday. Making a rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo, Bieber went five innings and gave up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts against one walk. The 30-year-old former AL Cy Young winner threw 62 pitches (47 strikes) and sat in the 93-94 mph range with his fastball. Bieber said afterward that "everything feels great," per Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet. It's unclear if Bieber will make another rehab start or debut with the Blue Jays, who acquired him from the Cleveland Guardians before Thursday's trade deadline. Bieber hasn't pitched in the majors since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2024, but AL East-leading Toronto was willing to roll the dice.Source: Arden Zwelling - Sportsnet
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Tommy Edman Likely Going on 10-Day Injured List
Tommy Edman (ankle) is likely to go on the 10-day injured list after spraining his right ankle Sunday, manager Dave Roberts told reporters. The Dodgers replaced Edman with Miguel Rojas in the fifth inning of their 3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Edman's right ankle has been a nagging issue for him throughout the season, and it previously led to a stint on the 10-day IL in the first half of May. The switch-hitting 30-year-old has appeared in 86 games and batted .228/.281/.396 with 12 homers, 44 RBI, and 43 runs scored in 332 plate appearances. If Edman does land on the IL, third baseman Max Muncy (knee) could take his roster spot. Muncy has been out for a month with a knee bruise, but he may be ready to return Monday to start a series against the St. Louis Cardinals.Source: Jack Harris - Los Angeles Times
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder/outfielder Rashee Rice's Suspension Status Remains Unclear
Rashee Rice's (knee) suspension from the NFL is "still in the works." While the league's internal process is being resolved, Rice could be available to play from Week 1. He is currently attending training camp and is working his way back from a brutal knee injury he sustained last season. The 25-year-old is facing a possible suspension of six or more games, but the exact length is unclear at this time. RotoBaller currently projects Rice as a borderline WR2, but if his suspension is deferred, his value could easily rise to the WR1 category. Fantasy managers should monitor his situation closely for updates on his status.Source: ProFootballTalk
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Brendan Donovan Scratched, Nolan Gorman in Lineup
Brendan Donovan (personal) a late scratch for their game against the San Diego Padres on Sunday. Donovan is away dealing with a family emergency, which will leave second base to Thomas Saggese and third to Nolan Gorman. Shortstop Masyn Winn will lead off in Donovan's place. The team had originally planned to give Gorman the day off, but he'll instead bat fifth in a meeting with starter Dylan Cease. Gorman has gone 1-for-3 with two strikeouts against the right-hander.Source: John Denton - MLB.com
The St. Louis Cardinals have made second baseman/outfielder Michael Pittman Jr. Sidelined With Groin Injury
Michael Pittman Jr. (groin) did not practice on Sunday while dealing with a groin injury. It was the second consecutive practice that he missed. Pittman Jr. posted a stat line of 69 receptions for 808 yards and three touchdowns last season, while playing through a back fracture. His absence from practice is a concern as he looks to develop chemistry with quarterbacks Anthony Richardson Sr. and Daniel Jones, who are currently battling for the starting job. Fantasy managers should monitor the situation closely, as the severity and duration of the injury could impact Pittman Jr.'s value heading into the regular season, where RotoBaller currently has him as WR47.Source: James Boyd
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Kevin McGonigle Homers, Drives in Three on Saturday
Kevin McGonigle homered in a 1-for-5 day at the plate on Saturday for Double-A Erie, collecting three RBI, scoring twice, and stealing a base as well. The Tigers' top-ranked prospect has not looked intimidated since joining Double-A in early July, but has been hitting even better as of late, going 10-for-27 (.370) with four doubles and two home runs in his last six games. The 20-year-old is slashing .370/.379/.741 for the year between High-A and Double-A, showing off an excellent hit tool with solid power, and he's been able to draw more walks than strikeouts (34:30 BB:K). The left-handed slugger has the makings of a strong fantasy producer and should be in the big leagues at some point next year.Source: MiLB.com
Detroit Tigers infield prospect Calvin Austin III Not Dressed at Training Camp With Undisclosed Injury
Calvin Austin III (undisclosed) was not dressed for practice on Sunday, as he is dealing with an undisclosed injury. While Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin did not list the injury as more significant than day-to-day, his absence is still a development to monitor. Austin is trying to secure a starting receiving role and develop chemistry with the new Steelers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Austin, who posted a stat line of 36 receptions for 548 yards and four touchdowns last season, could be a player to watch in the later rounds of fantasy drafts and comes in as WR84 in the latest RotoBaller rankings.Source: Brooke Pryor
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Walker Jenkins Homers, Gets on Base Four Times on Saturday
Walker Jenkins went 3-for-5 with a walk, a home run, three runs scored, and a stolen base on Saturday for Double-A Wichita. The Twins' top-ranked prospect is slashing .299/.411/.485 with five home runs and nine steals in 36 games for the Wind Surge this season. The 20-year-old missed much of the season with an ankle injury, which has also likely pushed his MLB debut until 2026. However, he should get some at-bats at Triple-A to finish out the season, and it could be a springboard for a fruitful fantasy campaign in the big leagues next year, bringing power and speed along with one of the best hit tools in the minors.Source: MiLB.com
Minnesota Twins outfield prospect KeAndre Lambert-Smith Continues To Impress at Training Camp
Keandre Lambert-Smith continues to turn heads at training camp, following up his impressive preseason debut with another standout performance on Saturday. According to beat reporter Kris Rhim of ESPN, Lambert-Smith caught two deep touchdowns from quarterback Justin Herbert, with one being a 53-yard catch. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman praised the rookie, stating, "He took the practice field to the game." This consistent play follows his strong outing in the Hall of Fame Game, where he led the team with 43 receiving yards on two catches and a touchdown. While Lambert-Smith is currently not a factor in fantasy drafts, his strong camp and early preseason play are worth monitoring as he looks to climb the depth chart.Source: Kris Rhim
Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Kyle Bradish's Rehab Assignment Moved to Triple-A Norfolk
Kyle Bradish (elbow) will continue his rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk. The 28-year-old was assigned to the Tides on Sunday after making two rehab starts thus far, one at High-A and another at Double-A. He's looked good in his limited sample, allowing one earned run on three hits and a walk while striking out six in 5 2/3 innings of work. The righty will need a few more rehab starts to get his pitch count up, as he only threw 38 pitches the last time out, but could rejoin the O's in late August or early September, just in time to help fantasy managers in need of pitching down the stretch run and into the fantasy playoffs, so interested managers should consider stashing in an IL spot until then.Source: AJ Gersh
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Salvon Ahmed Suffers "Severe" Leg Injury
Salvon Ahmed (leg) suffered a "severe leg injury" and had to be carted off the field from the team's practice on Sunday, according to Colts head coach Shane Steichen. Ahmed was reportedly the victim of an (inadvertent) hip-drop tackle from his teammate, rookie safety Trey Washington. Ahmed did not appear in an NFL game in 2024, but played in 38 games (four starts) between 2020-2023 for the Miami Dolphins. He had been fighting for a depth role in the Colts' backfield with Tyler Goodson, but it sounds as though this injury could potentially end Ahmed's 2025 season.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
Indianapolis Colts running back Simeon Woods Richardson Battling Stomach Bug
Simeon Woods Richardson (illness) was scratched ahead of his start against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. The 24-year-old had his start pushed back due to stomach issues. Now, the plan is for Woods Richardson to take the ball during Wednesday's contest. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with this pitching shakeup. The right-hander has been solid lately with a 2.58 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and a 30/18 K/BB ratio across his last eight outings. In his place, Jose Urena took the mound during Sunday's game.Source: Dan Hayes

Bryce Eldridge Logs Two-Homer Game on Saturday
Bryce Eldridge smacked a pair of home runs in a 2-for-4 day at the plate on Saturday for Triple-A Sacramento, collecting three RBI in the process. The Giants' top-ranked prospect is 12-for-44 (.273) with six home runs and 16 RBI over his last 11 games, and could push for a late-season call-up if he continues to flex his power. The 20-year-old began the season at Double-A and is now slashing .261/.326/.506 with 16 home runs in 66 games between the two levels. A 30.2 percent strikeout rate at Triple-A should give fantasy managers pause before they go out and stash him in redraft leagues, but long-term, the future looks bright.Source: MiLB.com
San Francisco Giants first base prospect Dillon Gabriel Struggling in Training Camp Practices
Dillon Gabriel has been "wildly down and wildly inaccurate in recent days," according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic. Jackson notes that Gabriel still gets reps ahead of fellow rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders but "has done nothing to make anyone observing believe he's ready to be trusted as a No. 2 quarterback." A third-round pick out of Oregon, Gabriel appears to be significantly behind veteran Joe Flacco, who is the reported favorite to win the starting quarterback job in Cleveland out of camp. It seems like both Gabriel and Sanders are likely also behind Kenny Pickett (hamstring), who is recovering from a hamstring injury but is the favorite to win the backup job. Based on this report, Gabriel should not be expected to push for playing time early in his rookie season.Source: The Athletic - Zac Jackson
Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Curtis Mead Recalled on Sunday
Curtis Mead is heading to the big-league roster on Sunday. Mead was acquired by the South Siders in a trade that sent Adrian Houser to the Tampa Bay Rays at the trade deadline. The White Sox are in need of another infielder with Miguel Vargas (oblique) heading to the injured list. Mead isn't in the starting lineup on Sunday, but figures to get regular playing time with Vargas out. He's a former top prospect, but isn't someone that needs to be rostered until he proves that he can hit at the big league level.Source: Tom Brew
Chicago White Sox infielder Nolan Gorman Heads to the Bench
Nolan Gorman was absent from the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. This appears to be a routine rest day for Gorman who has played in each of the last two games since returning from the injured list. Gorman was struggling with the bat before going down, but has two hits and an RBI since returning. He's not someone that needs to be rostered in most fantasy formats right now. Thomas Saggese will bat eighth and cover third base versus right-hander Dylan Cease on Sunday.Source: mlb.com
St. Louis Cardinals infielder Dontayvion Wicks Absent During Saturday's Practice
Dontayvion Wicks (calf) was not able to participate during Saturday's practice. It's worth noting that Wicks missed practice time earlier in the week due to a calf issue. It's unclear if Saturday's absence was a planned rest day or if Wicks couldn't participate due to the injury. The absence of Wicks meant more snaps for Matthew Golden, Romeo Doubs, and Malik Heath. Last season, Wicks saw a career-high 76 targets, but finished with 39 receptions for 415 receiving yards with five touchdowns in 17 games. The addition of Golden is going to make it more difficult for Wicks to see consistent snaps in Green Bay. Right now, the focus is getting Wicks back on the field, so fantasy managers should check back later on Sunday.Source: Justis Mosqueda
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dylan Sampson Earning Increased Workload?
Dylan Sampson is "essentially playing the 1B role" next to veteran Jerome Ford, according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic. A fourth-round rookie out of Tennessee, Sampson rushed for 1,491 yards and 22 touchdowns in 13 games last season for the Volunteers. With second-round running back Quinshon Judkins still unsigned by the team due to a July arrest, Sampson appears to be in line for a significant role as a rookie. Ford is entering his fourth season in Cleveland, but he's never truly earned a workhorse role throughout a full season. The backfield mix for the Browns will remain a bit muddled until Judkins' legal situation gets ironed out, but it sounds like Ford and Sampson will share the workload relatively evenly while Judkins is out.Source: The Athletic - Zac Jackson
Cleveland Browns rookie running back Nestor Cortes Activated From Injured List
Nestor Cortes (elbow) was activated off the 60-day injured list on Sunday. The southpaw was recently acquired by the Padres from the Milwaukee Brewers at the trade deadline. The Padres will basically get a fresh arm here with Cortes only making one start this season before landing on the shelf due to an elbow issue. In a corresponding move, right-hander Randy Vasquez was optioned to Triple-A on Sunday. That being said, Cortes figures to pitch in the rotation down the stretch of the season. Cortes is at least worth a look in deep leagues and could gain more steam.Source: San Diego Padres
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Lawrence Butler Absent on Sunday
Lawrence Butler is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This appears to be a routine rest day for Butler who has started in nine straight games. The A's will play matchups here and rest Butler against left-handed starter Eduardo Rodriguez. Colby Thomas will take over in center field and bat fifth on Sunday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly ahead of first pitch.Source: mlb.com
Athletics outfielder Harold Fannin Jr. Earning First-Team Reps
Harold Fannin Jr. has "already played his way into significant snaps with the No. 1 offense," according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic. A third-round pick out of Bowling Green, Fannin Jr. led FBS in receptions (117) and receiving yards (1,555) while scoring 11 total touchdowns in his final collegiate season. The Browns have established veteran David Njoku atop their tight end depth chart, but Jackson writes that Fannin Jr. is "going to play a role" as a rookie. The Browns could deploy both of their tight ends on the field together, but it's also possible that Fannin Jr. eats into Njoku's snaps and targets. Fannin Jr.'s deployment is something to monitor throughout the preseason, both for 2025 and beyond.Source: The Athletic - Zac Jackson
Cleveland Browns rookie tight end Austin Riley Leaves With Abdominal Pain
Austin Riley (abdomen) left Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds with lower-abdominal pain, the team announced. Luke Williams took over for Riley. The severity of Riley's injury is unclear, but it's worth noting that he spent some time on the 10-day IL in July with a strained right abdomen. When healthy, Riley has hit .260/.309/.428 with 16 homers, 54 RBI, 54 runs scored, and two stolen bases in 447 plate appearances.Source: Atlanta Braves
