San Diego Padres starting pitcher JP Sears is expected to be recalled to make a spot start against the Colorado Rockies at some point this weekend. The plan is to bring Sears up for a spot start so the regular starters can get extra rest. The 29-year-old has only made three starts with the Padres since being dealt from the Athletics at the deadline. The southpaw holds a 5.52 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and a 8/3 K/BB ratio across 14.2 innings of work with San Diego. Sears remains a risky streaming option even against a shaky Rockies lineup.--Andy Webb

Miami Marlins infielder Otto Lopez is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals. This is a rare off day for Lopez who has started in every game since August 23. Lopez has been hot with the plate lately, going 7-for-15 with two home runs and six RBI over his last four games. He's certainly someone worth considering snagging off the waiver wire at the moment given his hot streak. Maximo Acosta will cover shortstop while Javier Sanoja takes over third base versus left-hander MacKenzie Gore on Thursday.--Andy Webb

New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez is out of the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. This appears to be a routine rest day for Alvarez who has struggled at the plate lately. Since returning from injury, Alvarez is 2-for-18 with nine strikeouts. Hayden Senger will do the catching and bat ninth against left-hander Jesus Luzardo. Alvarez has good power upside, but isn't doing enough with the bat right now to warrant rostering in most fantasy formats.--Andy Webb

Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood is out of the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Miami Marlins. This is a rare off day for Wood who hasn't sat out of a contest since August 17. It's probably a good time with left-hander Ryan Weathers on the mound for Miami. This will give the Nats a chance to play the matchup game here. Paul DeJong will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh during Thursday's game. Fantasy managers should check their lineups and adjust accordingly ahead of first pitch.--Andy Webb

Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles is out of the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. This is now back-to-back games that Robles has been held out of the starting lineup. Before that, Robles was 5-for-17 across four games since returning from his suspension. Luke Raley will take over in right field and bat seventh versus right-hander Jose Soriano on Thursday. Robles hasn't done enough with the bat to warrant rostering in anything more than deep leagues.--Andy Webb

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Thursday. This news comes after Detmers was removed from Wednesday's outing due to elbow discomfort. His 2025 season is now basically over, with only a few weeks left in the regular season. He'll finish his year with a 3.96 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and an 80/25 K/BB across 63 2/3 innings of work this season. In a corresponding move, right-hander Chase Silseth has been recalled to take over the active roster spot. Detmers can safely be dropped in all fantasy formats.--Andy Webb

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe (shoulder) has been playing through a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder, manager Aaron Boone said on Thursday. The Yankees thought it was an old injury that Volpe could play through when they initially got his MRI results back in May, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Volpe has aggravated his shoulder a few times since then, including most recently this past weekend. The 24-year-old suffered the injury back in May while diving for a ball at shortstop, but he never went on the injured list and has been playing through it. It has affected him big time at the plate, as he's hit just .182/.230/.368 since the start of June. Volpe received a cortisone injection in his shoulder and is out of action for the second straight day on Thursday. With Volpe potentially going on the IL, Jose Caballero could be the team's starter at short going forward.--Keith Hernandez

Detroit Tigers shortstop Zach McKinstry (back) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's game in the Bronx against the New York Yankees due to a back injury that will cause him to miss a third straight start. Javier Baez is manning shortstop and will hit ninth for Detroit against Yankees right-hander Cam Schlittler. McKinstry is considered day-to-day, with his next chance to return to the lineup coming in Friday's series opener in Miami against the Marlins. Baez has had a resurgent year at the plate in 2025 while becoming more of a utility man for the first-place Tigers, but he's hitting .143 (6-for-42) with no homers, three RBI, three runs and a 14:1 K:BB in 13 games since Aug. 1. He has one hit and three strikeouts in the first four games of September and has never faced Schlittler in his career.--Keith Hernandez

Washington Nationals catcher Riley Adams (groin) is back behind the plate to catch left-hander MacKenzie Gore and will bat third on Thursday against the division-rival Miami Marlins and left-hander Ryan Weathers, who is making his return from the injured list. Adams took a foul tip off a sensitive area while catching in Tuesday's game against the Fish and left the game early, but he avoided a serious injury and is back in there after being rested on Wednesday. The 29-year-old backstop continues to serve as the team's primary catcher with Keibert Ruiz (concussion) still on the injured list. Adams has a career-high eight home runs and 24 RBI in his 71 games played in his fifth year in the big leagues (fourth with the Nats). Overall, he's batting just a hair over .200 but has slashed .239/.316/.380 with five long balls since taking over for Ruiz.--Keith Hernandez

Miami Marlins catching prospect Joe Mack went just 1-for-4 on Tuesday for Triple-A Jacksonville, but his lone hit was a big one, a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Marlins' third-ranked prospect has now homered in four straight games and five of his last seven, bringing his season total to 20. The 22-year-old now owns a .256/.336/.474 slash line with a .360 wOBA and 119 wRC+ in 106 games this year (93 at Triple-A, 13 at Double-A). The 22-year-old is trending toward a major league debut next year, and with some good power, he could be intriguing for fantasy, however, the Marlins also have plenty of young depth right now at the position, with both Agustin Ramirez and Liam Hicks handling duties behind the plate. So, Mack would have to somehow find regular at-bats when he gets there to make himself fantasy relevant.--Jarod Rupp

Texas Rangers shortstop prospect Sebastian Walcott will participate in the Arizona Fall League (AFL), one of eight players from the organization that will head to the desert. Walcott has played all season at Double-A, and at only 19 years old, he's performed admirably. The Rangers' top-ranked prospect is hitting .251 on the year, but is currently riding an eight-game hit streak and is 23-for-65 (.354) over his last 17 games. A 12.9 percent walk rate has helped him to a .353 OBP, and he's hit 13 home runs along with 32 stolen bases. The 6-foot-4 slugger should be stashed away in dynasty formats. He'll be joined by Emiliano Teodo, the 2023 AFL Reliever of the Year, who looked like he would be a slam-dunk closer for the team back then, but has had a poor season overall, which has been marred by injury, an 8.00 ERA, and almost as many walks (28) as strikeouts (31) in 27 innings pitched. So, there are some things for him to work on there, and the Rangers can see if he will be a part of their plan for the future.--Jarod Rupp

The Cincinnati Reds announced on Thursday that they reinstated rookie right-hander Chase Burns (elbow) from the 15-day injured list and optioned right-handers Lyon Richardson and Yosver Zulueta from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move. Burns, who was the second overall pick in last year's draft out of Wake Forest, has made eight starts for the Reds in his first MLB season in 2025, but he is expected to pitch out of the bullpen to help a struggling Cincy relief corps when the team resumes play on Friday in Sacramento against the Athletics. The 22-year-old missed a month of action with a Grade 1 right flexor strain and did not go on a minor-league rehab assignment. Don't expect the Reds to use him in a ton of high-leverage spots, which means he's going to lose significant fantasy value the rest of this year. Burns had a 5.24 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with a 57:13 K:BB before his injury.--Keith Hernandez

Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter (wrist) is headed to the Arizona Fall League (AFL) this October. He'll be joined by seven other Guardians prospects, including one of the team's former top-ranked prospects, pitcher Daniel Espino. DeLauter has endured a multitude of injuries during his time in the minors, having never played in more than 57 games in any of the last three seasons, and has been on the shelf since mid-July with a wrist injury. Espino (shoulder) has had similar injury issues as well, having not been able to take the mound since early 2022. The AFL will help both players make up for lost time and help prepare for the 2026 season. Both have a chance to be in the majors next year, with DeLauter potentially able to make the team out of spring training.--Jarod Rupp

The Cincinnati Reds announced on Thursday that they reinstated right-hander Graham Ashcraft (forearm) from the 15-day injured list and optioned right-handers Lyon Richardson and Yosver Zulueta in corresponding moves. Ashcraft will return to the Reds after missing the last two weeks with a forearm strain in his right arm and will be available out of their bullpen for the weekend series in Sacramento against the Athletics. The former starter is now a full-time reliever in Cincinnati, which has sapped him of what little fantasy value he had left. Ashcraft has made 53 appearances out of the bullpen for the Reds this year and has a career-best 3.72 ERA (2.90 FIP) and 1.45 WHIP with 56 strikeouts and 24 walks in 58 innings. His strikeout rate is a career-best 22%, but his walk rate is a career-high 9.4%.--Keith Hernandez

Athletics catching prospect Daniel Susac (undisclosed) was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. The nature of the injury is not clear, but if he can make it a minimum stay on the IL, then he could return in time for the Pacific Coast League playoffs. The Athletics' 12th-ranked prospect is having a fine season for the Aviators, hitting .275 with an .832 OPS, 18 home runs, and even seven steals. A 26.8 percent strikeout rate is something to keep an eye on, as that likely won't get better at the major league level, and he could be there as soon as 2026.--Jarod Rupp
