Nolan Gorman Nearing Rehab Assignment
Nolan Gorman (back) could begin a rehab assignment next week (July 28), according to Katie Woo of The Athletic. Gorman was placed on the 10-day injured list in mid-July with lower back pain and has since received a pain-killing injection. The 25-year-old has played every infield position other than shortstop for St. Louis this season. In 226 plate appearances, he's hitting .219/.310/.408 with nine home runs, 29 RBI, and 31 runs scored. There's no question that Gorman has power (.471 xSLG), but swing-and-miss continues to be an issue (30.1% strikeout rate). He's blocked off from everyday playing time by veterans Nolan Arenado at third base and Brendan Donovan at second base, but St. Louis may make a move or series of moves at the trade deadline that could free up some opportunity.
