Nick Yorke A Non-Roster Invite To Camp
4 years agoBoston Red Sox second baseman Nick Yorke, an 18-year-old that was the 17th overall pick last June out of high school, is in big-league spring training camp as a non-roster invite. Manager Alex Cora said that Yorke is in a better place physically and has lost some weight since last season. Yorke was a surprise first-rounder by Boston last year, but it was part of their plan in order to go over slot value later in the draft. Per MLB Pipeline, he's the team's No. 11 prospect heading into the 2021 season. He won't have a chance to a big-league roster spot, and the Red Sox likely invited him just to get a closer look at him after no minor league seasons in 2020. Yorke has the tools to become an above-average hitter at the keystone, but he's merely a watch-list candidate in dynasty leagues.
