Marcus Semien Could Be A Fit With Red Sox
4 years agoFree-agent shortstop Marcus Semien could be a fit with the Boston Red Sox, but at second base. Semien has played the most games of any shortstop from 2018-20 and was fifth among shortstops in WRC+ in 2018. He was the college roommate of current Red Sox scouting director Paul Toboni. Xander Bogaerts remains entrenched at the 6 in Beantown, although his name has come up in trade rumors. Semien hasn't seen significant time at the keystone since 2014, though, which doesn't make these two the likeliest fit. However, a handful of teams have asked Semien this offseason if he'd be willing to change positions. The 30-year-old struggled in the shortened 2020 season, but he slashed .407/.484/.667 with two homers and four RBI in 27 playoff at-bats and would be even more attractive in fantasy in 2021 if he were to gain second base eligibility.
