Manny Machado Likely To Have Elbow Surgery
1 year agoSan Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (elbow) is saying that he's likely to have surgery on his injured right elbow, and it could happen before the end of the regular season. The Padres technically have yet to be eliminated from a playoff spot in the National League, but they are currently 5.5 games behind the final wild-card spot with four teams in front of them, so it's pretty much a wrap for them in 2023. The 31-year-old might continue serving as the designated hitter until the Friars are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Machado could be looking at a six- to seven-month recovery timetable after the surgery, so he may not even be ready for the start of the 2024 season. He entered Monday night's game hitting .251/.315/.456 with 28 homers, 84 RBI, three steals and 73 runs scored in 513 at-bats in what has been an extremely disappointing season for the Pads.
