Mallex Smith Swats Rare Home Run
6 years agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Mallex Smith popped his third home run of the year Monday off of Astros starter Corbin Martin. He finished the game 1-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout and is now batting just .195 on the season. Since his return from his minor league demotion, however, he holds a more respectable .246 average, but that number is a long ways off from the .296 mark he posted in 2018. Smith has salvaged his fantasy season by stealing 14 bags to just one caught stealing, and he's returned to the top of the M's order boosting his value. He's been unable to take advantage of batting in front of the big bats in the lineup, and with Dee Gordon returning soon, he might be relegated back to the ninth spot once again. Smith remains one of the top speed threats in the league although he's hard to depend on in any other category with his streaky play.
