Kodai Senga To Make Spring Debut Sunday
2 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga threw a live batting practice session on Tuesday and is scheduled to make his debut for the team in the Cactus League game on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 30-year-old Japanese right-hander is adjusting to the steeper MLB mound in camp and has looked better in recent throwing sessions. He possesses a nasty sinker and had a 1.94 ERA in 144 innings in 2022 in Japan, but it will be interesting to see how he fares against big-league hitters in his first season with the Mets in 2023. The Mets signed him to a five-year, $75 million deal as a free agent in December, and he's expected to serve as the team's No. 3 starter behind Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.
