Joey Votto Sitting Against Southpaw
1 year agoCincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Logan Allen. With Votto out, Christian Encarnacion-Strand will play first base and bat sixth, with Henry Ramos serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth against Allen. Votto got a late start to the year due to injury and is hitting only .211 (31-for-147) with 13 home runs, five doubles, 31 RBI and 19 runs scored in 171 trips to the plate and 44 games. The 39-year-old Canadian is obviously far from the hitter he was in his prime, and he's also hitting just .172 (5-for-29) with three of his 13 long balls against lefties in 2023.
