Jacob deGrom Plays Catch
4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (side) resumed playing catch on Tuesday and plans to evaluate his mechanics after landing on the 10-day injured list due to tightness in his right side. The two-time National League Cy Young winner hopes his stay on the injured list is short. The 32-year-old's MRI exam showed no structural damage after he was removed from his latest start early on Sunday. When healthy, deGrom has been one of the best pitchers in baseball, going 3-2 with a major league-best 0.68 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 40 innings. He said that the tightness limited his ability to fix his mechanics on the fly in his last start. deGrom will throw daily until he's ready for a bullpen session, but the team is unsure if he'll return when he's eligible on May 20. The Mets are off the next two Thursdays, so they may proceed with a four-man rotation with deGrom out.
