Eugenio Suarez Wants To Hit 50 Home Runs
4 years agoCincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez, who had a down year in 2020 by hitting .202/.312/.470 with 15 home runs, 38 RBI and a 102 OPS+, said he wants to hit 50 home runs this year. Suarez hit .118 with two homers and 25 strikeouts in 82 plate appearances in his first 20 games, and he could never get on track in the shortened season. The right-handed power hitter is noticeably leaner and stronger physically this spring after he made changes to his diet. The 29-year-old also won't have to rehab his shoulder after having surgery last January. Suarez's BABIP of .214 was almost 100 points below his career mark of .310, and he had a career-high 14 percent barrel rate last year. There's plenty to suggest he could bounce back after hitting a career-high 49 homers and driving in 103 as recently as 2019.
