Commanders Release Carson Wentz
2 years agoThe Washington Commanders released quarterback Carson Wentz on Monday, which saves the team $26.17 million against the 2023 salary cap. After another disappointing year for Wentz in D.C. in 2022, he will be on the open market this offseason. The 30-year-old signal-caller completed only 62.3 percent of his passes for a career-low 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions in eight games (seven starts) and was benched late in the year for Taylor Heinicke. Wentz also missed some time due to a finger injury in the middle of the season. Seven years into his career, Wentz could be headed for backup QB duties in 2023 for whichever team he signs with. In Washington, Heinicke and Sam Howell are set to compete for starting duties, but the Commanders could also bring in more QB competition via free agency, trade or the draft.
