Clayton Kershaw Won't Pitch In World Baseball Classic
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw announced on Friday that he will not be participating for Team USA in this year's World Baseball Classic. Kershaw declined to give a specific reason, but he said it is "super disappointing." The most likely reason is a complication with insurance for Kershaw after he missed time due to injuries in 2022. It's disappointing for Kershaw, but the Dodgers and fantasy managers probably don't mind it at all. The 34-year-old future Hall of Famer was an All-Star for the ninth time in 2022 despite making only 22 starts. Kershaw went 12-3 with a 2.28 ERA (2.57 FIP), 0.94 WHIP and 27.8 percent strikeout rate in 126 1/3 innings. He's still been good when healthy, but he's missed considerable time in the last three seasons and is a good bet to hit the injured list again at some point in 2023.
