Chiefs Release Damien Williams, Re-Sign Taco Charlton
4 years agoThe Kansas City Chiefs released former starting running back Damien Williams on Tuesday, according to an informed source. The Chiefs also re-signed defensive end Taco Charlton to an undisclosed one-year deal. Williams opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19. His release will save the Chiefs $2.2 million in salary cap space for the 2021 season. The Chiefs also re-signed Darrel Williams to serve as Clyde Edwards-Helaire's backup. But the absence of Damien Williams will once again be a boost for Edwards-Helaire's ceiling for the upcoming season. Williams' agent, Ian Greengross, said his client is looking forward to playing after sitting out in 2020. Charlton, 26, had seven combined tackles, one forced fumble and two sacks in seven games played in his first season in Kansas City last year.
