Cardinals Extend Yadier Molina Through 2022 Season
3 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals and catcher Yadier Molina agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract extension for the 2022 season, according to sources. The 10-time All-Star, nine-time Gold Glove winner, four-time Platinum Glove winner, two-time World Series champion and Silver Slugger winner will be back for what is expected to be his final season. The 39-year-old is currently in his 18th MLB season and is hitting a respectable .259 with 51 RBI and eight home runs in 94 games this year. As a catcher, Molina has started 91 games and caught a full nine innings in 81 of those contests. In the team's press release, general manager John Mozeliak described the extension as Molina's "final season" to "cement his career legacy." 2022 will be more of a farewell tour for the future Hall of Famer.
