The Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially placed the franchise tag on safety Antoine Winfield Jr. on Tuesday, according to sources. It will be a placeholder until the two sides can hammer out a long-term contract extension that they will continue to work on and want to get done. If Winfield plays out the 2024 season on the tag, it will be worth $17.1 million fully guaranteed. The 25-year-old is one of the best safeties in the game without a doubt and is coming off a 2023 regular season in which he was the top-scoring defensive back in IDP scoring, accumulating 122 tackles (76 solo), six sacks, 12 passes defensed, three interceptions, six forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
