2 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers reached an agreement on an undisclosed one-year deal with former Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold on Monday, according to a source. The 25-year-old signal-caller will give the Niners some insurance at QB behind Trey Lance in case Brock Purdy (elbow) isn't ready for the start of the 2023 regular season after just having right elbow surgery last Friday. The former third overall pick of the New York Jets has proved to be a bust in his short time in the NFL. Darnold made only six starts for the Panthers last year, throwing for 1,143 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions on 140 attempts. If Darnold ends up making starts in 2023 for San Fran, it will mean that both Lance and Purdy are hurt.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
