RotoBaller's fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 18 (2023). Our advice on whether you should start or sit Jake Ferguson for fantasy lineups.
BALLER MOVE: Start in All Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: TE1
ANALYSIS: Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson was a popular sleeper candidate entering the season. The former Wisconsin star was replacing Dalton Schultz as Dak Prescott’s new go-to weapon at tight end. Ferguson has been solid. He is the TE8 for the year, averaging 8.2 half-point PPR fantasy points per game.
Despite CeeDee Lamb being second in the NFL with 1,651 receiving yards and Brandin Cooks having his fourth consecutive season with at least 600 yards, Ferguson has had a significant role on offense. The second-year player ranks eighth among tight ends with 692 receiving yards, a higher total than Kyle Pitts or Dallas Goedert.
Unfortunately, the tight end has struggled lately. Ferguson hasn’t scored double-digit fantasy points in six of the past seven games, including the Week 12 matchup against the Washington Commanders. The NFC East division rivals have one of the worst defenses in the NFL. However, they have shut down opposing tight ends, holding them to the fifth-fewest fantasy points per game this year (8.1).
While the Cowboys need to win this game to secure the NFC East division title and the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, Ferguson is a risky start. He has struggled lately, and the matchup is far from ideal. Yet, fantasy players likely don’t have a better option in Week 18.
