George Kittle Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Following the team's win in the NFC title game, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that Kittle is dealing with a toe injury and is considered day-to-day. On Monday, the 49ers didn't officially hold practice, but on their estimated injury report, Kittle was listed as a DNP due to his injury.
With an extra week to prepare, this isn't a concerning sign as it's being treated more as precautionary than anything. It will be worthwhile to monitor his practice status over the next few days to see just how serious the injury is.
In all likelihood, Kittle will be suiting up on February 11 for Super Bowl LVIII against the Chiefs. Being the heart and soul of the team and a tough, gritty competitor, only a major injury would keep him out of this game.
George Kittle Fantasy Football Outlook
Kittle finished 2023 as the TE5 in PPR formats, averaging 12.7 points per game. Despite a favorable game script in the NFC Championship Game, he ended with just two catches on three targets for 27 yards. Deebo Samuel was the primary target in the passing game while Christian McCaffrey assumed his massive volume both in the air and on the ground.
The Chiefs pose an interesting challenge, ranking fifth in DVOA against the pass and 23rd in points allowed to tight ends. Hunter Henry in Week 15 was the last tight end to have at least 50 yards against the Chiefs. In the most recent regular-season matchup with Kansas City, Kittle caught six passes for 98 yards and a touchdown, but he had just four catches for 36 yards in their last Super Bowl meeting.
Kittle has elite talent, but the Niners will likely look to lean on their run game, though Kansas City's elite secondary could open up plays over the middle. In this meeting, Travis Kelce is probably the better tight end option as the main playmaker, but Kittle could still be a good option as a flex play.
