ANALYSIS: The Cubs' roster teardown at the trade deadline opened up a lot of opportunities for new blood, and they've had a few bright spots emerge in the wake of that carnage. Frank Schwindel is one such player. The 29-year-old journeyman had only gotten 15 plate appearances in the big leagues prior to this season, but has racked up a .365/.408/.683 line with four homers and 23 R+BI in his first 18 games with Chicago.
Is Schwindel playing over his head right now? Almost certainly. But the 91.9% Z-Contact and 9.8% barrel rate suggest he can still provide value even once regression sets in. A hugely popular add in recent days, he's nonetheless still free to add in six of 10 leagues as of this writing.
