Fantasy Baseball Injury Report - Updates for Bryce Harper, Cole Ragans, Pablo Lopez, Tyler Glasnow, Max Meyer, Michael King, Luke Weaver, Yordan Alvarez

Cole Ragans - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Dr. Reuven Guy's fantasy baseball injury report for Week 11 (2025). Read the latest injury updates for Bryce Harper, Cole Ragans, Pablo Lopez, Tyler Glasnow, Max Meyer, Michael King, Luke Weaver, Yordan Alvarez, more.

One of the things I noticed when compiling this week's list of injured players is the number of injuries related to the oblique muscle. Also known as "side pain/discomfort," this muscle is located on both sides of our bodies, basically between the hip and the armpit. They are also close to the lower abdomen as well as chest wall near the ribs.

An oblique strain can affect many movements, such as bending, twisting, and picking up items. Knowing this, it is hard to imagine a player swinging a bat, sliding, pitching, or even rounding the bases without pain. The treatment for it includes rest, rehab, NSAIDs (which include medicine by mouth or injections), and patience as the player lets the body heal itself. A Grade 1 strain could take two to four weeks, a Grade 2 strain could take four to six weeks, and a Grade 3 strain could mean multiple months on the IL. Knowing this, one should have a better idea of what to expect with this type of injury. I will continue to highlight injuries such as this for fantasy-relevant players to better help you maximize your rosters.

Here's a little about myself for both new and returning readers. My name is Reuven Guy, and I am a practicing orthopedic/pain management physician assistant. I have been dealing with sports injuries for the past 19+ years. Therefore, I have knowledge of orthopedic injuries and their recovery times based on my medical experience. I also played fantasy baseball during that time. This has helped me get an advantage in this aspect of fantasy baseball, which I hope to share with you. I am also the co-host of the 2025 FSWA award-winning podcast "Beat the Shift." Injured Hitters for Fantasy Baseball

Bryce Harper (1B, PHI)- Wrist

Harper was placed on the IL this week with right wrist inflammation. Severity is not yet known, and there is no timeline for his return. Otto Kemp was called up and could see extended playing time at first for the Phillies.

Yordan Alvarez (OF, HOU)- Hand

Alvarez is on the IL with right-hand inflammation. He had recent imaging of the right hand, which showed a small fracture that was 60% healed. He will be shut down until it is completely healed. There is no clear timeline for his return as the date of the fracture is unknown.

Anthony Santander (OF, TOR)- Shoulder

Santander was placed on the IL with left shoulder inflammation. He has received a PRP injection and has rested for a week.

Jordan Walker (OF, STL)- Wrist

Walker was placed on the IL with left wrist discomfort. Walker is scheduled to start a rehab assignment on June 12 and could return by June 17.

 Dylan Crews (OF, WAS)- Oblique

Crews is on the IL with a left oblique strain. Severity is not yet known. He has not yet resumed baseball activity and he remains without a timeline for return.

Austin Hays (OF, CIN)- Foot

Hays was placed on the IL with a left foot contusion. His MRI this week came back negative, but Hays continues to have persistent pain. There is no timeline for his return.

Luke Raley (1B, SEA)- Oblique

Raley is on the IL with a right oblique strain. Raley hopes to begin a rehab assignment early next week and could return mid-June. Until now, Leody Taveras, Dylan Moore, Rowdy Tellez, and Donovan Solano have been seeing more playing time.

Matt Chapman (3B, SF)- Hand

Chapman is on the IL with a sprained right hand and wrist. An MRI confirmed the sprain. Chapman has said that he expects to miss more than the minimum time on the IL. Casey Schmitt should get more playing time with Chapman out.

Brendan Donovan (2B, STL)- Toe

Donovan had an MRI of his left foot, which showed a sprained capsule in the joint of his left big toe. Donovan said that he will try to avoid the IL and an IL stint is a "worst case" scenario. Donovan has been slumping in June and this may be why. That being said, the longer he is out, the better chance an IL stint would be inevitable. Nolan Gorman could see more playing time with Donovan out.

Ryan Mountcastle (1B, BAL)- Hamstring

Mountcastle is on the IL with a right hamstring strain. It is a Grade 2 strain and is expected to be eight to 12 weeks. Coby Mayo and Ryan O'Hearn will continue to see more playing time.

Ezequiel Tovar (SS, COL)- Oblique

Tovar was placed on the IL this past week with a left oblique strain. Severity is not yet known. Ryan Ritter was called up and could see playing time at shortstop for the Rockies.

Daulton Varsho (OF, TOR)- Hamstring

Varsho is on the IL with a Grade 1 strain of the left hamstring. He has been hitting in the batting cages but has not yet been cleared to run.

Noelvi Marte (3B, CIN)- Oblique

Marte is on the IL with an oblique strain. He had a follow-up MRI, which showed progress, and was cleared to start rotational activities. Marte has been out for more than three weeks and will still require a rehab assignment before being activated from the IL.

Garrett Mitchell (OF, MIL)- Oblique

Mitchell is on the IL with a left oblique strain for the past six weeks. He has now resumed baseball activities but there is no timeline for his return yet.

Shea Langeliers (C, ATH)- Oblique

Langeliers is on the IL with a left oblique strain. Severity is not yet known. With Langeliers out, Willie MacIver and Jhonny Pereda should see split time at catcher for the Athletics.

Mark Vientos (3B, NYM)- Hamstring

Vientos injured his right hamstring running to first base and is on the IL with a right hamstring strain. It is considered a low-grade strain. He has just begun baseball activities. His earliest return date is June 23.

Wilyer Abreu (OF, BOS)- Oblique

Abreu was placed on the IL with a strained left oblique. Severity is not yet known. Top prospect Roman Anthony was called up and should see extended time in the outfield for the Red Sox.

Yoan Moncada (3B, LAA)- Knee

Moncada is on the IL with right knee inflammation. He had missed a month earlier this year with a thumb injury. Severity is not yet known. Luis Rengifo is likely to see the bulk of the starts at third base while Moncada is out.

Injured Starting Pitchers for Fantasy Baseball

Bryce Miller (SP, SEA)- Elbow

Miller was placed on the IL with right elbow inflammation and is expected to be out four to six weeks. He had a PRP injection this week, had a cortisone injection in May, and will be shut down for at least the next two weeks. There is no timeline for his return. Logan Evans was called up to take his rotation spot for the Mariners.

Cole Ragans (SP, KC)- Shoulder

Ragans landed on the IL this week with a left rotator cuff strain. Severity is not yet known, but this injury may explain his last poor outing. Noah Cameron should stay in the Royals rotation for a while now.

Logan Gilbert (SP, SEA)- Elbow

Gilbert was placed on the IL with a right elbow flexor strain. Gilbert is on a rehab assignment and should be activated from the IL next week.

Tyler Glasnow (SP, LAD)- Shoulder

Glanow left his last start and was placed on the IL due to right shoulder inflammation. Glasnow threw off a mound last week and then experienced “general body soreness.” Manager Dave Roberts downplayed it, and Glasnow is set to throw again later this week. There is no clear timetable for his return, with his earliest return around June 27.

Nathan Eovaldi (SP, TEX)- Elbow

Eovaldi was placed on the IL with right posterior elbow (triceps) inflammation. Eovaldi had right triceps fatigue coming out of his most recent outing and was placed on the IL for extra rest. He has already played catch since landing on the IL. Per general manager Chris Young, Eovaldi has nothing structurally wrong with his arm. There is no timeline for his return.

Max Meyer (SP, MIA)- Hip

Meyer landed on the IL due to a left hip impingement. He will be out for the next few weeks as there is no timeline for his return. George Soriano was called up.

Michael King (SP, SD)- Shoulder

King was placed on the IL with right shoulder inflammation. He has begun playing light catch but does not have a return timeline. Stephen Kolek has been filling in for King in the Padres rotation.

Pablo Lopez (SP, MIN)- Lat

Lopez suffered a lat strain during his last start. It is a Grade 2 strain and is expected to miss eight to 12 weeks. David Festa was called up to take his rotation spot for the Twins.

Hunter Greene (SP, CIN)- Groin

Greene was placed back on the IL with a right groin strain. He went for a second opinion for his back and groin injuries. There is no timeline for his return.

Aaron Nola (SP, PHI)- Ankle

Nola was placed on the IL with a right ankle sprain. Nola threw a bullpen session last weekend and now has a stress reaction in his right rib cage. There is no timeline for his return.

Tony Gonsolin (SP, LAD)- Elbow

Gonsolin is on the IL with a right elbow injury. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said this week that Gonsolin had an MRI and it came back clean. Gonsolin underwent Tommy John surgery late in 2023. There is no timeline for his return.

Zebby Matthews (SP, MIN)- Shoulder

Matthews is on the IL with a right shoulder strain. Severity is not yet known. Simeon Woods Richardson should fill in for the Twins.

Ryan Weathers (SP, MIA)- Lat

Weathers was placed on the 60-day IL with a left lat strain. Lat strains for a pitcher usually knock them out for two to three months, which is why he went straight to the 60-day IL. Eury Perez was activated from the IL to start for the Marlins.

Reese Olson (SP, DET)- Finger

Olson was placed on the IL with right ring finger inflammation. He had an injection for the inflammation this week and threw a side session this week. Olson will now be out for a few more weeks as he has to ramp up his throwing program.

Brandon Woodruff (SP, MIL)- Shoulder

Woodruff continues to rehab from shoulder surgery last year and is on the IL. He was on a rehab assignment and was hit by a comebacker, now diagnosed as a right elbow contusion. There is no timeline for his return and he already logged 38+ innings on his rehab assignment so far.

Max Scherzer (SP, TOR)- Thumb/Lat/Back

Scherzer left his last start with a lat issue and has dealt with thumb and back issues since. He could have a possible rehab start this weekend as he inches closer to a return.

Shota Imanaga (SP, CHC)- Hamstring

Imanaga is on the IL with a hamstring strain. Imanaga has started a rehab assignment and will need two more rehab starts before being activated from the IL.

Jackson Jobe (SP, DET)- Elbow

Jobe was placed on the IL this week with a Grade 1 flexor strain. He requires Tommy John surgery and is done for the year and at least half of 2026. Sawyer Gipson-Long should fill in for the Tigers in their rotation.

Luis Gil (SP, NYY)- Lat

Gil has been on the IL with a lat strain since early this year. Gil threw a bullpen session but remains without a timeline to return yet.

Frankie Montas (SP, NYM)- Lat

Montas suffered a lat injury in March and is on a rehab assignment. In his last start, Montas threw 76 pitches and could be less than two weeks away from his first start with the Mets.

Marcus Stroman (SP, NYY)- Knee

Stroman has been on the IL since April 11 with left knee inflammation. He made his first rehab start this week and may need a few starts to build up his pitch count before being activated.

Jordan Hicks (SP, SF)- Toe

Hicks is on the IL with right toe inflammation. Severity is not yet known. Sean Hjelle was called up to take his starting spot.

Justin Verlander (SP, SF)- Pectoral

Verlander is on the IL with a right pectoral strain. He is on a rehab assignment and could return to the majors as early as next week.

Kutter Crawford (SP, BOS)- Knee

Crawford continues to recover from right patellar tendinopathy. His rehab is now being delayed due to wrist pain. His last bullpen session has been pushed off with continuing wrist pain. Testing of his wrist was normal but there is still no timeline for his return.

Injured Relief Pitchers for Fantasy Baseball

Luke Weaver (RP, NYY)- Hamstring

Weaver is on the IL with a left hamstring strain. He received a PRP injection and has resumed a throwing program. There is no clear timeline for his return yet.

Liam Hendriks (RP, BOS)- Hip

Hendriks is on the IL with right hip inflammation. He said he has been pitching through it for the past few weeks. He will be out until at least June 13.

Porter Hodge (RP, CHC)- Oblique

Hodge was placed on the IL with a left oblique strain. He has thrown a bullpen session and should begin a rehab assignment this weekend with a possible return next week from the IL.

Justin Slaten (RP, BOS)- Shoulder

Slaten was placed on the IL due to right shoulder inflammation. Slaten has not yet begun throwing, and there is no timeline for his return.

Justin Martinez (RP, ARI)- Elbow

Martinez was placed on the IL with a sprained UCL in his right elbow. Severity is not yet known but manager Torey Lovullo said Martinez is headed for a second opinion on the MRI result. Shelby Miller should close games for the Diamondbacks.
