Double Gameweek 24 Preview - Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 Tips and Captaincy Picks

Gameweek Tips - Fantasy Premier League, Soccer

This article provides a preview of what Gameweek 24 has in store for fantasy managers, including top captain selections and strong picks for the weekly FPL Challenge game.

Gameweek 24 is the first double gameweek of the 2024-25 EPL season, with Liverpool and Everton playing during the weekend and then clashing in the Merseyside Derby on February 12. What FPL chip should fantasy managers activate this week? I'll talk more about that later. Stay tuned!

The FPL Challenge introduces a new event series called the Assistant Manager Series, where managers can select a real-life Premier League manager for their fantasy teams. As always, we’ll offer weekly breakdowns of the top assets to target and help you maximize your point potential.

The Double Gameweek 24 deadline for the 2024-25 Fantasy Premier League season is Saturday, February 1, at 6:00 a.m. EST, when Nottingham Forest welcomes Brighton. Also, check out the rest of our excellent soccer coverage as the squad gets you all set for every EPL and UCL slate with our EPL DFS lineup picks and betting picks.

Double Gameweek 24 FPL Tips

Target Everton and Brentford Assets

Everton won only three matches in the first half of the season. However, under new head coach David Moyes, the Toffees' performances have steadily improved. They have now won two of their last three games.

One area that has significantly improved is the team's attack, with the Evertonians scoring four goals in their previous two matches. Everton has a game in hand and will push to stay clear of the relegation zone. Gameweek 24 seems like the perfect time to invest in an Everton asset.

Meanwhile, Brentford FPL assets have been cooking all season. Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa have scored 25 goals out of 42 club goals, accounting for 59.5 percent of all goals scored and resulting in 248 FPL points combined. The Bees will fancy their chances when they host 15th-place Tottenham, which is struggling with injuries.

To this end, FPL managers are advised to prioritize selecting attacking options from Everton or Brentford for Gameweek 24.

According to goal projections, Everton and Brentford are expected to produce 1.70 xG and 2.15 xG (expected goals) in their upcoming fixtures. For the Merseyside Derby, Everton is projected to produce 0.88 xG against Liverpool, implying that the Toffees' first home tie against Leicester is primarily where the bulk of their goals could come from.

What about Liverpool? It's safe to presume that many FPL managers have at least two Liverpool players on their fantasy teams, with the possibility of adding a third option like Cody Gakpo, as suggested in Gameweek 23. Hence, we have shifted our focus to other emerging FPL assets.

This week's recommended targets include any of Everton's Iliman Ndiaye, Vitaliy Mykolenko, and Jordan Pickford, and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa, and Mikkel Damsgaard.

Chip O'Clock: Which FPL Chip Should We Activate?

When a double gameweek approaches, the news of activating an FPL chip circulates rapidly. There has been a rising debate in the fantasy community about which chip is the best option for Gameweek 24.

The question is do we go with the Triple Captain or the Assistant Manager Chip this week?

The answer to that question boils down to each fantasy manager's preference. Based on historical events, the Triple Captain chip seems to be of a bigger advantage. In the 2021-22 season, Liverpool's Mohamed Salah scored a whopping 84 for fantasy managers who triple captained the Egyptian in Double Gameweek 26 that year.

Meanwhile, the new Assistant Manager chip could be a bigger beneficiary as it spans across a three-gameweek run. Since it's a double gameweek, the rules are slightly tweaked, as fantasy managers who activate this chip will stand to earn points for four matches thanks to an extra fixture for Liverpool and Everton.

As of this writing, Liverpool's Arne Slot leads the rankings for real-life managers with 183 points this season, while Everton's David Moyes has amassed 29 points in a three-game run since rejoining the Toffees.

According to @OfficialFPL, over 621,000 managers have activated their Triple Chip for Double Gameweek 24, while more than 520,000 have activated the Assistant Manager chip. It's safe to say there are no wrong answers on which direction to go.

Therefore, we wish our readers the best of luck on whichever chip you play this week!

FPL Double Gameweek 24 Top Captain Picks

The weekend fixtures present a list of fascinating options for your captaincy choice. Players like Chris Wood against Brighton, Bryan Mbeumo at home to Tottenham, and Chelsea's Cole Palmer against West Ham present strong cases. However, my top two picks would be:

Mohamed Salah (£13.7m) - Liverpool

Mohamed Salah, who leads the FPL with 222 points and averages 10.1 points per match, remains our go-to captaincy pick, thanks to an extra fixture coming up for the Reds on February 12.

The Egyptian king has made the most touches (248) in the opposition box this season, leading to 32 goal contributions for Liverpool. Salah is our RotoBaller captain of the week and a top contender for the Triple Captain chip.

Alexander Isak (£9.5m) - Newcastle

Alexander Isak, Newcastle’s leading scorer with 17 goals, will return to St James' Park this week. The Swedish forward recorded a 13-point haul in Gameweek 23 and is set to continue on his goal-scoring form when Newcastle hosts Fulham. The 25-year-old is a compelling choice for the captain's armband this weekend.

FPL Challenge: Assistant Manager Series

The FPL Challenge section for the 2024-25 season is back, and RotoBaller remains your go-to source for valuable insights on selecting the right assets for any challenge.

The 23rd challenge, "Instant Impact," focused on selecting a team of five players who had recently joined in the January transfer window, and these players received double points.

A new event series is underway, and our job is to help you maximize points for each task presented. Here is a breakdown of what to expect from the FPL Challenge: Assistant Manager series.

The Assistant Manager Series is a five-gameweek run that experiments with the Assistant Manager chip, as fantasy managers can select any Premier League manager to boost their fantasy team. This series covers five tests focusing on earning points through different players and play styles.

  • Gameweek 24 to 26: The Assistant Manager GW 1-3 - You can play an Assistant Manager.
  • Gameweek 27: Team Chemistry - Players from the Assistant Manager's Club earn double points.

Note: The Gameweek 28 FPL challenge is yet to be revealed; we await more updates from @OfficialFPL.

Assistant Manager FPL Challenge: Gameweek 1 - Players to Target

Week 24 of the FPL Challenge involves selecting a team of 10 players and one Premier League manager with a budget of £100 million.

RotoBaller's top picks for this week's challenge are:

  • In goal, Jordan Pickford is our top goalkeeper of the week.
  • In defense, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Vitaliy Mykolenko. All three defenders have a double-gameweek fixture and are solid defensive assets to bank on for this week's task.
  • In midfield, Mohamed Salah, Bryan Mbeumo, and Cole Palmer are our top midfield options. Salah takes the spotlight as our captain of the week.
  • A front line of Cody Gakpo, Iliman Ndiaye, and Alexander Isak complete the attack, rounding off our lineup in a 3-3-3 formation.
  • Arne Slot is our top manager for the Gameweek 1 Assistant Manager FPL Challenge.

Remember, you are free to select any other top FPL Challenge alternatives not mentioned above. Best of luck to everyone participating in this week's challenge!
