BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 42% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: In case you have missed the breaking news: the Carolina Panthers just traded their no. 1 rusher (and fourth-best fantasy RB in PPR leagues) Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers for a handful of draft picks. The hole created by this trade in the Panthers' backfield won't be filled by any player coming in exchange from The Bay, so it will be Chuba Hubbard's and D'Onta Foreman's backfield from now on.
Foreman is the preternatural rusher: he will carry the ball forward, full stop. That's why he got 133 rushing attempts over nine games (nearly 15 per game) even though he just "started" three of those as the clear-cut RB1 for the Panthers. Foreman rushed the rock for 566 yards (4.3 YPC) and three rushing touchdowns. He averaged 0.65 PPR points per opportunity compared to Hubbard's 0.66.
This season none of Hubbard nor Foreman have been on the field for even 30 snaps, though Foreman edges his younger teammate 27 to 19 on that front. The truth is that on such a low volume as both rusher have enjoyed, none has reached even 4.0 measly FP through Week 6.
That will change going forward with Foreman expected to take on the bulk of the rushing plays and Hubbard contributing on pass plays and more as a third-down back. Forget about Foreman getting targeted often, let alone catching those looks and boosting his fantasy tallies on PPR formats.
Foreman should be a better fantasy option as he should take on the RB1 role and get fantasy points just on pure brute force (that is, carrying the ball more often than not and putting up rushing yardage, even if low). That said, we have yet to see how Carolina approaches its backfield and Hubbard should be the one favored in PPR formats all things equal and/if he can overtake Foreman in the depth chart.
