Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Tyler O'Neill Is On A Power Surge In Triple-A

St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Tyler O’Neill has hit in eight straight games entering Sunday. O’Neill was acquired from the Mariners last year in the Marco Gonzales deal and possesses plenty of power. He has four home runs on the young season and is hitting .395 in 38 at-bats for Triple-A Memphis. The Cardinals currently […]

Sam Travis Starting To Heat Up In Triple-A

Boston Red Sox first base prospect Sam Travis has started to pick things up with his bat for Triple-A Pawtucket. Travis has hit safely in five of his last six games, which includes three multi-hit games. Travis got some run in the big leagues last year and hit a respectable .263 in 76 at-bats, with […]

Cubs And Braves Game Postponed Sunday

The Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves game Sunday has been postponed due to rain. The game will be made up on May 14th. The Cubs have announced that Sunday’s starter Tyler Chatwood will start Monday versus the Cardinals.

Willson Contreras Will Sit Out Series Finale Versus Braves

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras will sit out Sunday’s series finale versus the Braves. It is just a day of rest for Contreras and he will be replaced by Victor Caratini who will bat fifth. Contreras remains a top-3 option at catcher.

Johnny Cueto Confident He Will Pitch Tuesday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (ankle) is confident that he will be able to pitch Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks. Cueto was placed on the 10-day disabled list earlier this week after hurting his ankle during a workout. He threw 20 pitches to hitters and 20 pitches on the side Saturday. The right-hander has […]

Javier Baez Continues To Stay Hot

Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez continues to swing a red hot bat at the plate. Baez finished Saturday’s game 1-for-5 with four RBI. Baez led the way in the Cubs monsterous bottom of the eighth inning when he hit a bases loaded double to clear the bases and tie the game at that point. […]

Jose Quintana Struggles Saturday

Despite giving up seven runs in 2 1/3 innings on Saturday, Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana got a no decision thanks to the Cubs offense scoring nine runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Quintana also allowed seven hits, four walks and only recorded one strikeout. He now has a 8.16 ERA on […]

Kyle Schwarber Out Of Saturday’s Lineup

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber is absent from Saturday’s Lineup versus the Atlanta Braves. It makes sense as left-handed Sean Newcomb will take the hill. Ben Zobrist will play left field in place of Schwarber and bat fifth. There is rain the forecast for the afternoon affair, so it may be wise to avoid Cubs […]

Yu Darvish Suffers Loss On Friday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish struggled on Friday. Darvish was cruising over the first four innings, but struggled in the fifth inning where he gave up all four of his runs. Darvish also struggled with his command late in his outing and walked four batters along with giving up nine hits and striking out […]

Anthony Rizzo Expected To Return Monday

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo (back) is expected to return from the disabled list Monday versus the Cardinals. Rizzo has been sidelined since last Friday with back stiffness, and manager Joe Maddon believes that Rizzo would be able to play Friday if he was eligible. Get ready to plug Rizzo back into all fantasy […]

Albert Almora Scratched From Friday’s Lineup

Chicago Cubs outfielder Albert Almora (illness) has been scratched from Friday’s lineup with an illness. It’s a shame for Almora, who rarely draws starts versus right-handed pitching and would have Friday. Outfielder Ian Happ will replace Almora and bat first. Almora is day-to-day.

Sandy Alcantara Struggles With Command In Second Triple-A Start

Miami Marlins pitching prospect Sandy Alcantara struggled with his command Thursday for Triple-A New Orleans. Alcantara went 4 2/3 innings in which he allowed four runs and issued five walks. Alcantara struck out four batters, but overall it was not what is expected out of Alcantara, who was the main piece in the Marcell Ozuna […]

Mike Soroka Continues To Pitch Well In Triple-A

Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Mike Soroka went 5 2/3 innings and struck out eight batters Thursday for Triple-A Gwinnett. Soroka gave up two runs but didn’t walk a batter. It was a very good outing for Soroka, who seemingly has nothing else left to prove at the minor league level. The Braves are likely to […]

Stephen Gonsalves Has Yet To Allow A Run For Double-A Chattanooga

Minnesota Twins pitching prospect Stephen Gonsalves went four innings for Double-A Chattanooga Thursday, allowing no runs, three hits, three walks and striking out five. Gonsalves remains one of the better prospects in the game and has yet to allow a run in both of his starts over 9 1/3 innings. The left-handed 23-year-old is expected […]

Kris Bryant Starting At First Base, Tommy La Stella To Start At Third Base

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant will start at first base on Friday. Infielder Tommy La Stella will handle third base and bat second. Bryant will need four more starts in CBS and Yahoo leagues to gain eligibility at first base.

Will Smith Throws One Inning In High-A

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Will Smith (elbow) threw one inning in High-A San Jose on Thursday. Smith is recovering from Tommy John surgery and could be back in the big leagues in three weeks if his rehab goes well. Even with Mark Melancon (forearm) having no timeline for a return, Smith is unlikely to have […]

Mark Melancon Has Stem-Cell Injection

San Francisco Giants closer Mark Melancon (forearm) had a stem-cell injection in his right pronator on Thursday. Melancon will now wait two weeks before starting a throwing program. He also visited with Dr. James Andrews, who said Melancon’s ligament was fine. Reliever Hunter Strickland is doing a good job as the Giants closer and with Melancon […]

Johnny Cueto Not Sure If He Will Start Tuesday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (ankle) said that he is unsure on if he will be able to start on Tuesday. Cueto threw on flat ground Thursday and is going to try to throw in the bullpen Friday. More should be known on Cueto’s status by the weekend.

Austin Jackson Out Thursday, Gregor Blanco To Start

San Francisco Giants outfielder Austin Jackson (groin) will sit out Thursday evening. Jackson left late in Wednesday’s game with groin tightness. Manager Bruce Bochy said that Jackson was removed as a precaution and it makes sense for him to sit out Thursday. Gregor Blanco will replace Jackson and bat eighth. Jackson will look to get back […]

Welington Castillo Remains Day-To-Day

Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo (knee) remains day-to-day with a sore knee. Castillo is out for his second consecutive game and said his knee felt sore after the team flight. Infielder Tyler Saladino will operate as the team’s emergency catcher and Omar Narvaez will continue to start behind the plate.

Kyle Hendricks Suffers A Tough Loss On Thursday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks pitched well on Thursday, but suffered the loss due to poor run support. Hendricks went six innings and allowed two earned runs. He also struck out seven and walked three. Both runs came off of home runs. Hendricks remains one of the more consistent pitchers in all formats and […]

Kyle Schwarber Gets Three Hits Versus Pirates On Thursday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber was the lone bright spot for the Cubs Thursday afternoon. The outfielder hit his third home run of the year and also picked up a single and double to finish 3-for-4. Schwarber has been hit or miss early on, but given his power potential, he should be owned in all […]

Aaron Hicks Activated From 10-Day Disabled List

The New York Yankees have activated outfielder Aaron Hicks (intercostal) from the 10-day disabled list. Hicks was sidelined with an intercostal strain and will be pushed right back into the lineup as the team’s designated hitter Thursday. Hicks provides good pop with his bat and will likely hit in the middle of the Yankees order, giving […]

Giants Option Andrew Suarez, Promote Derek Law

The San Francisco Giants continue to shake up their pitching staff, this time demoting starting pitcher Andrew Suarez and promoting relief pitcher Derek Law. Suarez pitched well in his big league debut Wednesday and is likely to get more opportunities as the season goes on. Law has a career 3.31 ERA in his two-year career, […]

Giants Confident Johnny Cueto Will Make Start Tuesday

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the San Francisco Giants are confident that starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (ankle) will be available to start Tuesday. Cueto landed on the 10-day disabled list earlier in the week after he hurt his ankle working out. Cueto is off to a nice start with a 0.69 […]

Welington Castillo Remains Sidelined On Thursday

Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo (knee) remains sidelined Thursday evening. It will be his second straight game missed with a sore right knee. Omar Narvaez will once again be behind the plate and will bat eighth. Castillo remains day-to-day.

Anthony Rizzo Hits In Batting Cage Thursday

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo (back) hit in the batting cage Thursday. Rizzo has been sidelined with back tightness, but the hope is that he will be able to return Monday when he is first eligible to come back. Utilityman Ben Zobrist and backup catcher Victor Caratini continue to see time at first base […]

Chris Volstad Promoted By White Sox

The Chicago White Sox have promoted pitcher Chris Volstad to the big league roster. Volstad, 31, is a career journeyman and holds a career 4.92 ERA over 725 innings. He can be avoided in all formats.

Carlos Rodon Transferred To 60-Day Disabled List

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (shoulder) has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list. Rodon continues to rehab from shoulder surgery and his initial timeline to return is around June. Rodon remains worthy of a stash in all leagues and could help impact fantasy owners pitching staffs in the second half.

Willson Contreras Resting Thursday

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras will rest Thursday afternoon. It’s no surprise after the Cubs played Wednesday night. Victor Caratini will be behind the plate and bat sixth. Contreras is off to a nice start, hitting .326, but he has yet to record a home run and has just one RBI. There shouldn’t be anything […]
