Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Kris Bryant Hits Second Home Run

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant hit his second home run of the season Saturday. It was a rocket off of Zach Davies in the top of the 6th inning. Bryant finished the game 3-for-3 adding a single, triple and also drawing a walk. He remains of the best offensive options in the game.

Yu Darvish Strikes Out Nine In No Decision

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish struck out nine batters and allowed one run on two hits Saturday. He also allowed one walk. Darvish bounced back in a good way after a rough debut. Darvish remains one of the best strikeout pitchers in the league and should be started every time he takes the hill. […]

White Sox Send Down Juan Minaya To Triple-A

The Chicago White Sox announced on Saturday that they have sent relief pitcher Juan Minaya down to Triple-A. Minaya walked four batters Saturday and allowed one run while recording zero outs. In three outing so far, Minaya has allowed five walks and three runs in just one inning. He should be back up as he […]

Addison Russell Gets Saturday Off

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell will get a day of rest Saturday. Russell has been off to a good start this year with a .308 batting average. Second baseman Javier Baez will slide over to shortstop and Tommy La Stella will bat fifth and play second base. Russell should be back in the lineup Sunday.

Anthony Rizzo Remains Out Of Saturday’s Lineup

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo (back) remains out of Saturday’s lineup with back tightness. Manager Joe Maddon believes the injury is minor, but it makes sense to play it safe by resting Rizzo. Victor Caratini will once again start first base and bat sixth. Rizzo remains day-to-day.

Kyle Hendricks Gives Up Four Runs Friday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks gave up a pair of two-run home runs to Eric Thames and Travis Shaw Friday evening. Hendricks was cruising before then, but only lasted five innings. There should be nothing to worry about with Hendricks who remains one of the more consistent pitchers in all of baseball. He’ll square […]

Anthony Rizzo Scratched With Back Tightness

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo (back) has been scratched from Friday’s lineup with lower back tightness. The move is considered to be precautionary and Rizzo should be considered day-to-day. Catcher Victor Caratini will play first base tonight and bat sixth.

Giants Still Have Not Named Fifth Starter

The San Francisco Giants have yet to name their fifth starter for the 2018 season. The Giants won’t need a fifth starter until April 11 versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ben Zobrist Leading Off Friday, Ian Happ To Bench

Chicago Cubs second baseman/outfielder Ben Zobrist will hit first Friday night and play right field. Jason Heyward will shift to center field and Ian Happ will move to the bench. Jason Heyward Comes Up With Pinch-Hit Home Run

Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward hit a pinch-hit two-run home run Thursday. Heyward has been a mega bust since signing an eight-year, $184 million deal with the Cubs prior to the 2016 season. Heyward remains best served for defensive purposes and should be avoided in most mixed leagues for now.

Addison Russell Picks Up Two More Hits Thursday

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell went 2-for-5 Thursday versus the Brewers. Russell had a double and scored one run with one RBI. Russell is looking to bounce back in 2018 and has been hitting the ball well so far with a .304 batting average.

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras picked up three hits Thursday night versus the Brewers, including a double. Contreras also drew a walk and scored a run. Contreras should be one of the top producers at the catcher position and is hitting .280 so far.

Jon Lester Goes Six Strong Innings Thursday

After a rough start on Opening Day, Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jon Lester bounced back on Thursday versus the Brewers. Lester went six innings and allowed zero runs on three hits. Joakim Soria Blows Up Thursday

Yolmer Sanchez Picks Up Three Hits

Chicago White Sox third baseman Yolmer Sanchez continues his hot start to the 2018 season. Sanchez went 3-for-5 on Thursday with two triples and a single. He also drove in three runs. Sanchez is hitting .400 on the young season and is worthy of consideration in AL-only leagues.

Avisail Garcia Continues To Hit The Ball Well

Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia continues to hit in 2018. Garcia finished Thursday evening going 2-for-5 with two runs scored. He is now hitting .333. Garcia is trying to prove that 2017 was no fluke and should be owned in all leagues.

Matt Davidson Continues To Hit

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Matt Davidson went 2-for-3 with a single, double and two walks Thursday. Davidson also scored three runs and finished with an RBI. The slugger is off to a nice start and is a good source of power as long as he continues to see the ball well.

Kyle Schwarber And Jason Heyward Out Of Thursday’s Lineup

The Chicago Cubs will begin Thursday’s game with outfielders Jason Heyward and Kyle Schwarber on the bench. With the Cubs being opposed by left-hander Brent Suter, manager Joe Maddon will shift Ian Happ to left field with Albert Almora starting in center and Ben Zobrist in right field. Almora makes his money against lefties and […]

Eloy Jimenez Hurts Himself Lifting

Chicago White Sox top prospect Eloy Jimenez (pectoral) hurt himself lifting on Thursday, but Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports it is minor. Nick Delmonico Out Of Thursday’s Lineup

Chicago White Sox outfielder Nick Delmonico is out of Thursday’s lineup versus the Detroit Tigers. Delmonico has struggled early on and is just 1-for-13 on the young season. Outfielder Leury Garcia will take over for Delmonico and bat sixth. With the White Sox off Friday, Delmonico will hope to get back on track Saturday.

Johnny Cueto Picks Up Win Wednesday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto allowed one run over six innings versus the Mariners Wednesday evening. Cueto only recorded one strikeout and allowed eight hits while walking two. The right-hander tweaked his ankle early in the contest trying to field a Dee Gordon bunt, but remained in the game. Cueto has been off […]

Brandon Crawford Hits First Home Run

San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford hit his first home run of the season Wednesday versus the Seattle Mariners. Crawford also added a single to go along with a run scored and two RBI. Crawford is best suited for NL-only leagues at the moment.

Brandon Belt Has Big Game Wednesday

San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt hit his first home run of the season Wednesday night. Belt did it all Wednesday as he added two singles to finish 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He also drew a walk. Belt is off to a strong start and is hitting .353 early on […]

Joakim Soria Picks Up Second Save

Chicago White Sox reliever Joakim Soria picked up his second save of the season Wednesday evening versus the White Sox. Soria is now 2-for-2 in save opportunities and it looks like the closer gig is his as long as he continues to perform well. Soria should be owned in all leagues as long as he […]

Jose Abreu Off To Hot Start In 2018

Matt Davidson Hits Fourth Home Run

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Matt Davidson hit his fourth home run of the season on Wednesday. Davidson had cooled off since hitting three home runs on Opening Day and finished the game 1-for-3. Davidson is hitting .263 and has driven in seven runs.
