Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Matt Davidson Playing In The Field Wednesday

Chicago White Sox manager Rick Renteria said that he wanted to get designated hitter Matt Davidson some time in the field and that’s why he put him at first base on Wednesday. First baseman Jose Abreu will serve as the designated hitter. Davidson hit three home runs on Opening Day and if you can stomach […]

Hunter Pence Available Off Of Bench Wednesday

Despite being scratched from Wednesday’s lineup with a sprained right thumb, San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence (thumb) said he is available Wednesday. Pence said that the thumb injury doesn’t bother him as much hitting, but effects his throwing. He could return to the lineup in short order, but he's really only an option in […]

Hunter Pence Scratched From Wednesday’s Lineup

San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence (hand) has been scratched from Wednesday’s lineup. Pence hurt his hand diving for a ball Tuesday but remained in and finished the game. Outfielder Gorkys Hernandez will take over for Pence and is nothing more than a dart throw in DFS on Wednesday.

Evan Longoria And Austin Jackson Resting Wednesday

San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria and outfielder Austin Jackson are not listed in Wednesday’s lineup versus the Seattle Mariners. Longoria has been off to a slow start thus far, but did get his first hit, a home run on Tuesday. Pablo Sandoval will take over at third base Wednesday and bat sixth. Gregor […]

Yolmer Sanchez Out Of Tuesday’s Lineup

Chicago White Sox third baseman Yolmer Sanchez is absent from Tuesday’s lineup. Sanchez is 2-for-9 on the young season with three RBI and a stolen base. Infielder Tyler Saladino will replace Sanchez and bat eighth. Saladino can be avoided in DFS on Tuesday. Sanchez should be expected to return to Wednesday’s lineup.

Will Smith Throws Simulated Inning Tuesday

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Will Smith (elbow) threw a 20-pitch simulated inning on Tuesday. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Smith looked good. Smith is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is still a few months away from being back for the Giants. Smith may be able to help owners with holds, but should remain […]

Kyle Schwarber And Ian Happ Sitting Tuesday

With Reds left-hander Cody Reed on the mound Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs will rest outfielders Kyle Schwarber and Ian Happ. Schwarber has been off to a hot start with two home runs so far, while Happ, who had a strong spring and hit a home run in his first at-bat of the season, has struggled […]

Jeff Samardzija Throws Bullpen Session Tuesday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija (pectoral) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday. Giants manager Bruce Bochy seemed positive on Samardzija being much improved. Derek Holland will continue to start while Samardzija is out and can be left on the waiver wire in most leagues.

Madison Bumgarner Hopes To Be Back Before June

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner (hand) told reporters on Tuesday that he has already started working out and can do more with his arm now than he could when he was injured last season. Bumgarner said that an early-June return is “conservative” and he aims to return sooner than that. It looks like […]

Brandon Belt Out Of Tuesday’s Lineup

San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt will have Tuesday off. Catcher Buster Posey will shift over to first base and Nick Hundley will start at catcher and bat seventh. It seems like just a routine day off for Belt and he should be back in the lineup Wednesday.

Welington Castillo Blasts Two Home Runs On Monday

Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo hit two home runs versus the Blue Jays Monday evening. Castillo entered the year as a sleeper behind the dish and should be able to hit 15-20 home runs this year. Beef Welington has six multi-homer games in his career, the last three of which have come against the […]

Jose Abreu Gets Three Hits Monday

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu went 3-for-4 Monday with two singles and a double. Abreu has been off to a hot start so far and is 5-for-12 on the young season with one home run. He remains one of the more underrated and consistent players in the game.

Reynaldo Lopez Pitches Well Monday

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez fared well in his season debut Monday. Lopez allowed two hits, one run and struck out six over six innings versus the Blue Jays. Lopez is still young and could have an up-and-down season, but he is worth owning in AL-only leagues and worthy of a look in […]

Tyler Chatwood Allows Six Walks In Cubs Debut

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood went six innings in his Cubs debut Monday afternoon. Chatwood only allowed one run, but did walk six batters and struck out four while giving up four hits. Chatwood got no run support as the Cubs lost 1-0 and got a tough-luck loss. Chatwood should improve from Monday’s outing […]

Nick Delmonico Resting Monday, Leury Garcia To Start

Chicago White Sox outfielder Nick Delmonico will get a day of rest Monday evening. In place of Delmonico will be outfielder Leury Garcia, who will bat seventh. The White Sox will face left-hander Jaime Garcia Monday, and Garcia is no more than a dart throw in daily leagues.

Nelson Cruz In Walking Boot

Seattle Mariners designated hitter Nelson Cruz (ankle) was seen in a walking boot following Saturday’s game. Cruz slipped on a step during the game and will have an MRI on Sunday. More will be known after the MRI results, but any time missed by Cruz would be a major blow to fantasy owners. First baseman […]

White Sox And Royals Game Gets Postponed

Sunday’s contest between the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals has been postponed due to cold weather and rain. The game has been rescheduled for April 28. The White Sox have noted that they will stick with their normal rotation and James Shields will start their home opener on Thursday. Adjust your lineups accordingly […]

Ian Happ Out Of Sunday’s Lineup, Albert Almora Draws Start

With Miami Marlins left-hander Dillon Peters on the hill Sunday afternoon, the Chicago Cubs will rest outfielder Ian Happ and start Albert Almora. Happ has carried his strong spring in 2018 into two starts, but Almora crushed left-handed pitching last year. Almora will hit first and makes for a strong daily play Sunday.

Willson Contreras Out Of Sunday’s Lineup

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras will receive a day off Sunday afternoon. It’s no surprise as the Cubs have been in back-to-back extra inning contests. Victor Caratini will bat seventh and handle the catcher duties Sunday. Contreras should be back in the lineup Monday versus the Reds.

Yoan Moncada Connects For First Home Run

Chicago White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Saturday night. The youngster has one of the brightest upsides in the game and is still just 22. He offers plenty of upside as a five tool player and should be own in all leagues.

Joakim Soria Picks Up First Save

The Chicago White Sox called on relief pitcher Joakim Soria to pick up his first save on Saturday. Manager Rick Renteria mentioned over the spring that both Soria and Nate Jones would see action in the ninth inning, but Soria got the call tonight. The White Sox closer situation may be frustrating, but Soria for […]

Yu Darvish Gets Roughed Up In Cubs Debut

Making his Chicago Cubs debut, starting pitcher Yu Darvish couldn’t make it out of the fifth inning. In 4 1/3 innings, Darvish gave up five runs and struck out five batters while walking two. Darvish is lined up to face the Brewers next Friday and should have better results.

Kyle Schwarber Blasts Second Home Run On Saturday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber hit his second home run of the season Saturday evening. Schwarber slimmed down this spring, but his power stroke is still there for him. Schwarber was poised for a comeback season and owners who drafted him are already benefiting with his power. He finished the game 2-for-4 also hitting a […]

Eloy Jimenez Out With Pectoral Strain

Chicago White Sox top prospect, outfielder Eloy Jimenez (pectoral) has a mild left pectoral strain and will be held out of baseball activities for a week. Jimenez will then report to extended Spring Training before starting his season in Double-A. Jimenez had a big spring and should be able to force his way into the […]

Javier Baez Out Of Saturday’s Lineup

The Chicago Cubs will rest second baseman Javier Baez on Saturday. Utilityman Ben Zobrist will start in place of Baez and bat seventh. Zobrist started last night’s thriller and went 3-for-7. He is worth a look in daily leagues tonight, but figured to be in and out of the Cubs lineup this year and is […]

Johnny Cueto Dominates On Friday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto was lights out on Friday evening versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. Cueto pitched seven innings allowing one hit and striking out four batters. Cueto had a rough 2017 campaign, but is off to a nice start in 2018. He remains a strong bounce back candidate.

Joe Panik Hits Second Home Run

After leading the Giants to a 1-0 victory on Thursday, second baseman Joe Panik was back at it again as he hit his second home run of the season off of Kenley Jansen to secure a Giants 1-0 victory. Panik is off to a strong start and will be a hot waiver wire pickup.

Eddie Butler Suffers Loss Despite Strong Effort

After coming in to pitch seven innings out of the bullpen, Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Eddie Butler drew a tough luck loss. Butler got the first two batters out in the bottom of the 17th inning before allowing back-to-back singles, Butler was then pulled for closer Brandon Morrow who gave up the game winning run […]

Kyle Hendricks Pitches Well Friday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks allowed one run on four hits while striking out five batters. Hendricks only downfall tonight were his three walks. The right-hander remains one of the more underrated and consistent starters in the game. Hendricks will go for his first win of the season Thursday versus the Milwaukee Brewers.

Kris Bryant Hits First Home Run

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant hit his first home run of the season on Friday. Bryant finished the game 3-for-6 and chipped in a double, single and walk. Bryant remains one of the better offensive options in all formats and should return first round value this year.
