ANALYSIS: Don't expect him to line up under center too much more going forward, but Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman could be in position to close the season strong by working out of his primary position - running back.
Phillip Lindsay (knee) suffered a knee injury in this past week's game against the New Orleans Saints and it appears likely that he's going to miss at least the next few weeks. That opens up a ton of opportunities on an offense that runs the ball often. Melvin Gordon III will be the team's primary ball-carrier while Lindsay is out, but Lindsay has carried the ball 25 times over the past two weeks and a total of 82 times over the season. Most of those vacated carries will fall into Freeman's workload going forward.
Freeman is averaging 4.3 yards per carry on the season and he was extremely effective in Week 12, rushing eight times for 50 yards. He was more effective in this week's game than Gordon, who gained just 31 yards on 12 carries.
Add Freeman in leagues of 14 teams or deeper. While the Broncos aren't going to be as run-heavy going forward as they were in their bizarre Week 12 game, they're still going to hand the ball off around 25 times per game, giving Freeman the potential to deliver solid flex numbers over the next few weeks.
