Steelers running back (RB) Anthony McFarland Jr. is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free agent addition for Week 4 of the 2020 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED: 1% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Pittsburgh Steelers running back Anthony McFarland Jr. saw his first NFL action in Week 3 against the Houston Texans and made the most of his opportunities. McFarland carried the ball six times for 42 yards and added a seven-yard reception in the game.
Benny Snell Jr. entered the year as the team's No. 2 back and flourished in Week 1 when the team's No. 1 back James Connor got hurt, but Snell has really struggled since then. In Week 2, Snell managed just one yard on four touches and lost a fumble. In Week 3, he gained just 11 yards on seven carries and didn't have a target in the passing game.
As long as Connor is productive and healthy, he's going to continue to get the bulk of the carries. So for now, it's hard to see any other Pittsburgh running back being worthy of start consideration. McFarland is worth adding in leagues of 14 teams or deeper as a potential flyer in case something happens to Connor. Snell is still in competition with McFarland for the No. 2 role, but we could definitely see him fall further out of favor in the coming weeks, making McFarland's stock rise even more.
