Sunday features a three-game main slate which starts at 6:30 pm ET for DraftKings and FanDuel with Vegas and Chicago on the back end of a back to back while Philadelphia and Montreal then Vegas and St. Louis and Vancouver close out the hockey night.
Remember, when looking around for plays, an over/under of 6 dictates offense, but an over/under of 5 or sometimes 5.5 tilts towards the goalies. There are several games at 6.5, as that has become the new norm in hockey now. Also, note that FanDuel and DraftKings have split options for those who do not want to play the all-day slate.
In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 8/16/20. DFS Forwards to Consider
Bo Horvat - C, VAN vs STL (FD - $6,600, DK - $6,400)
Apparently, Bo knows clutch hockey. He scored twice, including the overtime winner on Friday night as the Vancouver Canucks beat the St. Louis Blues again. The Blues do not have an answer so far for the transition game from Vancouver's top six. Vancouver will not dominate flow of play but their ability to counter and put St. Louis on its heels is headline by a guy like Horvat.
Some other choices might include Kirby Dach, Jonathan Toews, Elias Pettersson, and even Jesperi Kotkaniemi of the Montreal Canadiens.
Patrick Kane - W, CHI vs VGK (FD - $8,000, DK - $7,300)
The forward remains the most important in Chicago's quest to take a game in this series against Vegas. Again, which line the Kane line faces is one to target as well. Kane will get his chances but him and his teammates have to execute. The Chicago winger had just three scoring chances in Game 3. His price did creep up a little bit. He managed an assist in the loss as the Blackhawks have played better the last two games with little to show for it. Kane has come close to a breakout game a few times in this series. It needs to happen now.
Also, Consider:
It is a prudent idea to go exploring for more secondary scoring on Saturday. With three games, there is more than enough variety to go around. The Vegas and Chicago game is one to look at because of the back to back nature. Will some more goals get scored on Sunday night? Possibly.
Exploring the second and third lines this time of year has to be done more than the top power-play units, etc. Typically, games feature less penalties on average as the playoffs move along. Even strength play develops more and more importance. Finally, look at Alex Tuch whom has some nice underlying numbers in this series against the Chicago Blackhawks.
DFS Defenders to Consider
Alex Edler - D, VAN vs STL (FD - $4,500, DK - $5,500)
This is a consistent value play only because Edler keeps on producing points. He was a double digit point producer for the second game in a row. St. Louis has a difficult time keeping him from getting his shot off. The other thing that helps is that Edler will play in any and all situations.
He only finds ways to get points and will tend to shoot a lot when things break down. For Vancouver, things break down but also build through transition. Therefore, keep it well in mind. Shea Theodore and Duncan Keith remain viable. Connor Murphy would be another floor guy but is more risky than usual. Even Chris Tanev has value again this evening,
Calvin de Haan - D, CHI vs VGK (FD - $3,600, DK - $3,500)
Easily, this all comes down to keeping things simple. de Haan keeps getting blocks and boosting his floor. AS long as he hits the net, he hits value. It is that easy. If a player is averaging 3.5 blocks per game and 2+ shots per contest then, he has to be worth a play when price at less than $4,000 on both major platforms. Other choices for Sunday may include Nate Schmidt, Jeff Petry, Shea Weber, and even Matt Niskanen.
DFS Goalie to Consider
Carter Hart - G, PHI vs MON (FD - $8,400, DK - $8,100)
This is all about taking a goalie most likely to get a win with a good performance. That should be Hart, who was pulled on Friday as the Philadelphia Flyers laid a colossal egg in Game 2.
Hart's risk is moderate because of the fact that Philadelphia is at a crossroads. They need effort as Montreal has gained a bit of the upper hand in this series. The expectation is that the starting Flyers goalie will not get shelled again.
For FanDuel, some may take a shot at Carey Price because of price which will will cause his stock to rise. There was also that shutout in Game 2 that left people raving about that performance.
