Saturday features a ten-game evening slate with a spotlight on games like Philadelphia and Ottawa, Florida and Carolina, plus even Pittsburgh and Vancouver.
Remember, when looking around for plays, an over/under of 6 dictates offense, but an over/under of 5 or sometimes 5.5 tilts towards the goalies. There are several games at 6.5, as that has become the new norm in hockey now.
In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 12/21/19. Elias Pettersson - C, VAN vs PIT (FD - $7,500, DK - $6,200)
Most everyone has vivid memories of that 8-6 game in Pittsburgh where the top lines went wild and then in the second and third periods, it was absolute chaos. Pettersson is shooting the puck more again with 34 shots in his last ten games including 4+ in each of his last four. He has five goals in his previous nine games including two in his last one versus Vegas. His DraftKings price is attractive in this spot against a Pittsburgh team that is not rested. If it feels like this has happened before, you may be right.
Alex Ovechkin - W, WSH vs TB (FD - $8,300, DK - $7,600)
The winger has bounced back nicely hitting value in eight of his last ten appearances. Ovechkin is averaging 4.5 shots per game of late along with six goals and nine points in that span. Tampa Bay gives up well over three goals a game on the road and 34+ shots per 60. Ovechkin has never met a shot he does not like and Washington comes home after a glorified scrimmage against New Jersey on Friday. Expect a good deal of fireworks on both sides in this tilt as Tampa Bay should score a few goals as well.
Also, Consider:
- Patrice Bergeron, Evgeni Malkin, and especially Nathan MacKinnon are excellent plays on Saturday night.
- Filip Forsberg, Brendan Gallagher, and Nikita Kucherov are nice options on Saturday from the wing position.
DFS Defenders to Consider
Shea Weber - D, MTL vs EDM (FD - $5,500, DK - $5,800)
Weber can sometimes hit both shot and block bonuses on DraftKings and again it is about that booming shot in all phases. He has enjoyed an offensive awakening this year with 29 points in 35 games including nine in his last nine contests. Edmonton is not rested and is on some kind of downturn. If there ever was a game for some offense, this might be it. Edmonton's power play and Montreal's even-strength play should both excel here. Both help Weber in this one.
Roman Josi - D, NSH vs BOS (FD - $6,600, DK - $7,000)
Josi is just a plug and plays again on Saturday night. He has seven points and three goals over his last nine games and does not truly cool off. He has 31 points in 34 games on the season and is on pace for 70+ points. He averages just about four shots a game and 1.7 blocks per contest which supplement his offense. Boston is on a 1-4-2 downturn over their last seven and have given up 3+ goals in six of those games. Nashville tends to play with pace and will give up goals too so this is another mini-game stack possibility.
Also, Consider:
- Simply John Carlson has to be considered on Saturday as he had a goal and assist on Friday against New Jersey. That PP1 stack may just work again.
- Torey Krug is a nice GPP play against a bad Predators defense of late. Again, think teams that allow lots of points per game.
DFS Goalie to Consider
Joonas Korpisalo - G, CLB vs NJ (FD - $7,600, DK - $7,800)
The idea was to look at goaltender who has an easy matchup. Korpisalo faces New Jersey on Saturday night that allows 3.62 goals per game on the road and scores just 1.94 per contest. Columbus should be able to fire lots of shots at whoever starts for New Jersey. Expect the Devils to be very tired and flat in this one at times. Then again, they looked that way last night against Washington as well. The Blue Jackets should be able to establish their forechecking game early and draw mistakes. Korpisalo may only face 25-30 shots but has one of the best chances for a win on this slate.
Also, Consider:
- The other good GPP choices on Thursday may include Marc-Andre Fleury. Darcy Kuemper, for Arizona, could be riskier than expected given his two sub-standard performances against Minnesota this season.
