DraftKings Daily Fantasy Baseball Lineup Picks (9/7/16): MLB DFS Advice

By Keith Allison on Flickr (Originally posted to Flickr as "Adrian Beltre") [CC-BY-SA-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

Justin Klein highlights the top daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for 9/14/16. These are the top value and sleeper plays for your DraftKings MLB DFS lineups.

It's a full slate of MLB games on DraftKings for Wednesday's contests, as four games take place in the late morning or early afternoon and the remaining 11 contests take place in the evening. Because of the split I'm going to offer options from both the early and evening games so that you can apply this advice to all day contests, early and/or evening contests.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball MLB lineup picks for DraftKings on 9/7/16. The DFS lineup picks will range from high-priced to low-priced options and identify options who will out-perform their expectations, including sleepers and value plays on DraftKings. The following targets have been selected early and late contests.

Editor's Note: Purchase a full season NFL Premium Pass (including Draft Kit + DFS Premium), and also get MLB Premium + DFS for free through the playoffs. Premium DFS lineup picks, expert lineups, tools and more - seven days a week. You can see screenshots of our NFL Premium and MLB Premium and DFS tools. What are you waiting for?

DFS Lineup Stacks to Target on DraftKings

Boston Red Sox vs. Jarred Cosart (RHP)

Not only do the Red Sox have a great offense, but Jarred Cosart has been terrible this season, and because of that we have a pretty easy David vs. Goliath situation on Wednesday in San Diego. This season Cosart has allowed right handed hitters a triple slash of .347/.414/.408. This means that all of the right handed hitters that the Red Sox have in their lineup are in play including Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Dustin Pedroia, Yoan Moncada, Hanley Ramirez and Sandy Leon. If you'd like you could also include their SP David Price in that stack.

Chicago Cubs vs. Matt Garza (RHP)

Matt Garza has actually been fairly decent over the past month for the Brewers, but he's been bad this season as he's allowed 92 hits and 41 earned runs in 80 and 2/3 innings pitched this season. While Garza has been decent against right handed hitters this season he's been awful against lefties as he's allowed them a triple slash of .297/.369/.465. This bodes well for all the southpaws in the Cubs lineup and that could include: Anthony Rizzo, Dexter Fowler, Ben Zobrist, Chris Coghlan and Miguel Montero. It also helps that the game is taking place at Miller Park, which has been the home of the 4th most HR of any park in baseball this season.

DFS Starting Pitchers to Consider on DraftKings

Robbie Ray, ARI vs. LAD - $8,300

Robbie Ray has been a great source of strikeouts this season as he's managed to post 183 of them in just 149 and 1/3 innings pitched this season. While Ray has been good in the K department he's also been very good in four of his past five starts as he notched two wins and three quality starts along with an impressive 31:9 K:BB ratio. On Wednesday he'll face off with Brock Stewart and the Dodgers and that bodes well on multiple fronts. Not only has Stewart been bad in his MLB career this far with a 7.94 ERA across four appearances, but Ray has been solid against the Dodgers in his career as he's totaled a 1.95 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a .188 BAA in 37 innings against LA. Last but not least the Dodgers have been awful against LHP this season as LA ranks dead last in OPS vs southpaws this season.

Stephen Strasburg, ATL vs. WAS - $10,400

Stephen Strasburg makes his return from the DL in a home start against the Braves on Wednesday. While I usually like to wait an outing before using a player returning from the DL I don't have that luxury here. However, I do have the opportunity to use one of the best pitchers in baseball this season against one of the worst hitting teams. Not only does Strasburg have the best winning percentage in baseball this season, but he's also managed an 11.08 K/9. Meanwhile the Braves offense has been terrible against RHP this season as they rank 27th in runs scored, 29th in HR and 26th in OPS. This is a risky play that is best suited for GPP's but at that price I love the upside so I'm more than happy to gamble.

DFS Infielders to Consider on DraftKings

Catcher (C)

Miguel Montero, CHI at MIL - $3,300

Miguel Montero would be a solid cost effective play if he gets the start on Wednesday. Not only would he face off with the below average Garza in a hitter friendly park, but it gets even better when you realize that Miguel is a career .391/.464/.565 hitter against Garza. It also helps that Montero has been hot over his past 10 games as he's posted eight hits in 21 at bats while plating five. Just make sure that he's in the starting lineup.

First Base (1B)

Chris Carter, CHI vs. MIL - $5,100

While Anthony Rizzo might be the best play on the surface I'm going to go with the opposing first baseman at Miller Park on Wednesday and that's Chris Carter. Over his past five games Carter has launched three HR and a double. This season Carter has 33 HR and 22 of them have come at home at Miller Park. On Wednesday he'll be facing off with a LHP and that bodes well because Chris has slugged a strong .604 against southpaws this season. That's 134 points higher than against RHP. He's expensive, but he's also red hot and has a great matchup in a hitter's park so give me Carter over Rizzo on Wednesday.

Second Base (2B)

Brian Dozier, KC vs MIN - $5,600

Brian Dozier has been a man on fire of late as he notched 12 hits including seven HR and a double to go with his 2 SB and insanely high 1.259 SLG over the past week (six games). On Wednesday he'll face LHP Danny Duffy at home at Target Field. While Duffy has been good this season Dozier has been great against LHP as he's managed a .678 SLG against southpaws this season. Also of note is that at home in MN Brian's AVG is 17 points higher and his SLG is 22 points higher. He's expensive, but worth paying up for right now as he's doing his best Barry Bonds impersonation.

Shortstop (SS)

Freddy Galvis, PHI vs. MIA - $3,600

Galvis has quietly been hitting for power lately as he's slugged .611 with two HR over his past five games, and .629 with four doubles and three HR over his past 11 games.. This season against RHP Galvis has managed to post 18 doubles, three triples, 14 HR and 12 SB. On Wednesday he'll face Andrew Cashner who has allowed LHH a .282/.371/.498 triple slash this season. While I would only use him in GPP's I believe that Galvis will take advantage of the matchup and hit for extra bases on the cheap on Wednesday.

Third Base (3B)

Jose Ramirez, HOU at CLE - $4,600

Jose Ramirez has been solid this season as he's tripled slashed an impressive .309/.362/.456. This season against RHP Jose has been even better as he's triple slashed .313/.366/.460 and on Wednesday he faces RHP Doug Fister. This bodes well for Ramirez because Fister has allowed LHH a triple slash of .302/.359/.535. Ramirez might not be the sexiest play, but he's rather safe and he has a terrific matchup.

DFS Outfielders to Consider on DraftKings

Byron Buxton, KC vs. MIN - $3,200

Since being recalled from the minor leagues Buxton has notched 10 hits in 20 plate appearances including three HR and three doubles. He'll face LHP Danny Duffy on Wednesday at home at Target Field. While Duffy has been good this season he's been roughed up the past two weeks and he has allowed 18 HR to RHH this season. Not only is Buxton red hot and fairly cheap, but he'll likely be a contrarian play as well.

Ryan Braun, CHC vs. MIL - $5,500

Ryan Braun faces off with Mike Montgomery and the Cubs at Miller Park on Wednesday and that's good for Ryan as he has destroyed LHP this season. On the year Brauny is triple slashing a silly good .353/.429/.608 with seven HR and seven SB against southpaws despite playing in only 49 games across 102 at bats against them.

Raimel Tapia, SF vs. COL - $2,900

In case you haven't noticed Tapia has been leading off for the Rockies lately and that in itself is probably worth $2,900 when you're talking about a game being played at Coors Field, home of the most runs per game and the second most HR per game. When you add in the facts that the left handed hitting Tapia will be facing off with a right handed pitcher and has a ton of speed to go with on base skills and we have a very nice value option on our hands.
