Recent Update

10/17:Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia (knee) will decide in the next few days if he'll undergo surgery on his left knee, according to a source familiar with his thinking. Pedroia has seen multiple specialists, and surgery remains on the table. "If you were to get it fixed, the recovery is a long time," Pedroia said. There's a chance Pedroia's recovery could affect his availability for the start of spring training or the regular season, which would further hurt his already declining outlook. The veteran second baseman can still hit (.293 in 2017), but his power (seven homers) continues to decline, and he's a big-time injury risk.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

  • @PeteAbe: The big surgery news with the #RedSox will be when Dustin Pedroia decides on a course of action with his knee. That… https://t.co/fujZ5A3UFD
  • @PeteAbe: #RedSox Notebook: Coaches free to leave; Pedroia gets checked out; Francona reacts to Farrell firing: https://t.co/aiAPOiYx1f
  • @alexspeier: DD alluded to that desire today. Does seem like desire to see young core flourish/lead part of desired 'change' https://t.co/1QBLeqHw8a
  • @alexspeier: In context of story about Pedroia, wrote about Sox' desire to see young core assume greater clubhouse leadership. https://t.co/1QBLeqHw8a
  • @alexspeier: Pedroia seeing two specialists. 'Most important is that his knee is as good as it can be going forward.'
  • @alexspeier: The final on-field images of Dustin Pedroia were startling, raising on- and off-field questions for Red Sox https://t.co/1QBLeqHw8a
  • @alexspeier: As much as any offseason in his Red Sox career, this one may represent a crossroads for Dustin Pedroia https://t.co/62eNoPdoEQ
  • @IanMBrowne: Loss -- and knee -- painful for Pedroia https://t.co/vkbS3gW7Xd via @mlb
  • @PeteAbe: Very downcast #RedSox clubhouse. Bogaerts called it one of the toughest losses of his career. Pedroia, others very dejected
  • @alexspeier: Pedroia was asked if Farrell should be back next year. His response: https://t.co/DC4GBJCm0A
  • @alexspeier: Pedroia not only suggested that surgery was possible, but that recovery timetable would be long if he chooses that route.
  • @PeteAbe: Pedroia going to get his knee checked out tomorrow. Acknowledged that surgery is a possibility
  • @alexspeier: Heck of an at-bat by Pedroia concludes in a 4-3, and the Astros celebrate their advance to the ALCS after a 5-4 win.
  • @IanMBrowne: It is up to Dustin Pedroia to extend the game.
  • @alexspeier: Here's the GameDay feed of strike 3 to Pedroia. About the same position relative to the outside edge as Bradley's. https://t.co/3sYyaeH14r
  • @PeteAbe: Give Wegner credit for not running Pedroia. That was pretty close.
  • @PeteAbe: Pedroia should have gotten run there. Farrell took the charge instead
  • @IanMBrowne: Red Sox flip-flopped Pedroia and Bogaerts. Vazquez in for Leon. Otherwise, same as yesterday.
  • @IanMBrowne: Red Sox lineup in Game 4. Pedroia, Bogaerts, Benintendi, Betts, Moreland, Ramirez, Devers, Vazquez, Bradley, Porcello SP.
  • @PeteAbe: Game 4: Pedroia 2B, Bogaerts SS, Benintendi LF, Betts RF, Moreland 1B, Ramirez DH, Devers 3B, Vázquez C, Bradley Jr. CF, and Porcello RHP
  • @alexspeier: That pitch and swing have resulted in hundreds of 2Bs for Pedroia at Fenway. He looks like a guy who can't drive the ball due to bad knee.
