Top Hitter Waiver Wire Streamers for Week 16

Whether it’s because of an injury or poor performance, there are always opportunities to stream players off the waiver wire. The best players to stream are those who are under-owned and face appealing matchups for the upcoming week.

Here are five players who are readily available in Fleaflicker leagues and have attractive matchups during the sixteenth week of the season.

Editor's Note: RotoBaller has the best Premium MLB Subscription for only $1.99 per week. We have all the tools to help win your seasonal and daily leagues: Hitter & Pitcher Streamers, Matchup Ratings for every player, Sleeper Surgers for AVG, HR, Ks, PLUS Daily DFS Cheat Sheets, Lineup Picks, Expert Lineups, Stacks and Avoids.

Top Hitter Streamers for Week 16

Logan Forsythe (TB, 1B/2B) - 48% Fleaflicker

Forsythe has been one of the more reliable fantasy second basemen since the start of the 2015 season, but somehow, he is available in more than half of leagues a month after being activated from the disabled list. He is hitting .284/.348/.465 with eight homers and five steals on the year, and .362/.393/.655 with three homers in 58 AB vs. lefties.

This week, the Rays begin a road trip that includes three games in Colorado and four in Oakland. Pitching for those teams will be lefty Tyler Anderson (.313 BAA at home, .780 OPS vs. RHH), righty Tyler Chatwood (.299 BAA at home, .757 OPS vs. RHH), lefty Jorge De La Rosa (.844 OPS vs. RHH), righty Sonny Gray (.878 OPS vs. RHH), lefty Rich Hill, lefty Sean Manaea (.842 OPS vs. RHH) and righty Kendall Graveman. Forsythe has been one of the most consistent middle infielders in baseball when healthy and should really be owned in more leagues. At the very least, he should be used as a streamer anywhere possible.

Travis Shaw (BOS, 1B/3B) - 45% Fleaflicker

Shaw won the Red Sox’ third base job in Spring Training and has been a solid contributor for a Boston team that has scored the most runs in all of baseball. He is slashing .269/.332/.456 with nine homers, 42 R, 48 RBI and four steals on the year. More importantly, he is hitting .290/.363/.485 with seven homers and 34 RBI against right-handed pitchers.

This upcoming week, the Red Sox will draw Jake Peavy and Matt Cain of the Giants, as well as Tyler Duffey, Kyle Gibson, Ricky Nolasco and Tommy Milone of the Twins. Milone is the only lefty of that group, and all five of the righties enter the week with an ERA above 5.00. As a team, the Red Sox own a .839 OPS against righties— the best in baseball. Shaw is a solid long-term option, and he should be especially productive over the next few days.

Jayson Werth (WAS, OF) - 27% Fleaflicker

The days of Jayson Werth being a staple in fantasy lineups are in the rearview. So far this year, he owns just a .249/.347/.410 slash line with 10 homers, 47 R and 40 RBI— still solid, but best suited for NL-Only leagues. That said, his mixed-league fantasy value isn’t totally diminished. The 37-year-old is hitting an insane .373/.453/.639 with five homers in 83 AB against left-handed pitching.

In the upcoming week, the Nats will face lefties Scott Kazmir, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Christian Friedrich, along with two righties — Bud Norris and Colin Rea —  and a Padres pitcher yet to be determined. In the National League, three lefties are hard to come by in such a short span. Fantasy owners in deep leagues should use Werth to steal some production off the waiver wire this week.

Derek Dietrich (MIA, 2B/3B/OF) - 7% Fleaflicker

Dee Gordon’s suspension actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the Marlins. They are still in playoff contention, and have uncovered a hidden gem in Derek Dietrich in the process. The 26-year-old can play three different infield spots, so it shouldn’t be difficult to find him playing time— in real life or in fantasy. Plus, he is hitting .299/.391/.436 on the year with four homers, 25 R and 29 RBI— .324/.423/.469 with all four homers vs. righties.

This week, Miami will travel to Philadelphia to play a four-game series against the Phillies and then host the Mets for three more. Right-handers Aaron Nola, Vince Velasquez, Jeremy Hellickson, Jerad Eickhoff, Logan Verrett and Jacob deGrom will take the mound in the first six games of the week— Dietrich can be dropped or benched before Sunday’s showdown with Steven Matz. None of the aforementioned arms provide particularly favorable matchups, but Dietrich has hit just about everything thrown by a righty this year. He makes for a nice stream in deep leagues for owners in need of an injury replacement.

John Jaso (PIT, 1B/OF) - 5% Fleaflicker

Jaso has played for four different teams over the last five seasons, but is on pace to set a new career high in at-bats in his first year with the Pirates. He also has a shot at career-best marks in homers, runs scored and runs batted in. The 32-year-old really only plays versus righties, against whom he is slashing .287/.361/.410 with all four homers and all 25 RBI.

The Pirates have six home games this week, and will face a right-hander in all of them. Junior Guerra, Chase Anderson, Matt Garza, Zach Eflin, Aaron Nola and Vince Velasquez are all solid pitchers, but a whole week of righties means a whole week of playing time for Jaso. He’s not much of a home run hitter, but he could string together a bunch of hits in a full week.
