NBA Daily Fantasy Lineup Picks - FanDuel DFS Basketball Advice for 1/14/16

By Keith Allison [CC-BY-SA-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

Scott Z highlights the top NBA DFS lineup picks for 1/14/16, as well as a couple of sleepers to keep in mind while building your roster on FanDuel.

Got some great fantasy match ups tonight in this five game slate (not including players from the early TOR/ORL game in London), with tons of big names to choose from. I tried to focus on some lower priced players to make sure you can fit an extra star or two into your roster.

In this article, I will be providing you with Daily NBA picks for FanDuel for 1/14/16. The picks will range from some of the elite players, to mid-priced options, and value plays.

Good luck and feel free to hit me up on twitter @udontknowziplow with any DFS questions

FanDuel DFS Point Guards

Kyrie Irving (at SAS, $7,700)

Flashback to March 12th, 2015 against the Spurs. Kyrie Irving scores 57 real points (wow.), dishes out five assists, grabs three rebounds, swipes four steals and only has two turnovers on his way to a ridiculous 74.1 FD points (Again, wow).  While I don't think Kyrie will be able to match that performance tonight, I do think he's in for a huge game.  Now the numbers don't really support Kyrie having a monster game against the NBA's best defense, but sometimes you just have to go with your gut.  At  $7,700, he only has to reach 35ish FD points to reach 5x value, which he has done three times over his last five games. This is a relatively safe play considering his price point, and has the upside to win you big money.

Aaron Brooks (at PHI, $3,700)

This is one of my potential home run picks for the night. Although with Pau Gasol out, this game could be closer than normal, I still expect this game to be a blowout. Couple that with the fact that Derrick Rose did not practice yesterday, and there seems to be huge potential for Brooks tonight.  The last game Brooks got starters minutes he tallied 29 real points, five assists, one steal, one rebound and (unfortunately) six turnovers for a grand total of 33.7 FD points. I'm weirdly hoping Rose is not officially ruled out for tonight, because it will keep Brooks ownership level low, and I don't think Rose will play a lot regardless of his status.

FanDuel DFS Shooting Guards

Louis Williams (at GSW, $6,000)

Shooting Guard is always a tough position on FanDuel, and tonight is no exception. I'm worried about a blowout in Philly, making Butler too risky to roster, and Klay is a bit too expensive for his recent fantasy production.  That leaves a ton of mid-priced guys to choose from.  Based on the expected pace and scoring in his game tonight, Louis Williams is an easy choice.  Although it might be a quick blowout against the Warriors (especially considering they lost last night), that will leave plenty of time for Louis Williams to rack up fantasy points in garbage time against the Warriors backups. Now you never want to count on garbage time, but Louis Williams is seeing a ton of minutes every single night, on a team that sees garbage time almost every single night.

Danny Green (vs. CLE, $3,600)

Yeah this is a bit of a stretch, but Danny Green is too good to be playing this poorly. Green is probably only rosterable in GPP's tonight, but I think he comes with huge upside for a guy who will likely see close to 30 minutes of playing time and is nearly priced at the minimum on FanDuel. In the same game I referenced above for Kyrie, Green scored 24 real points, had four rebounds, two steals, and four blocks for a total of 41.3 FD points. Obviously this is just one game from last season, but it supports the fact that the potential is there, and this is a big time game where the Spurs will definitely need not only his shooting, but his elite perimeter defense.

FanDuel DFS Small Forwards

LeBron James (at SAS, $10,300)

Big time players, make big time plays, in big time games.  Tonight's game against San Antonio on the road is definitely a big time game, and is an oppurtunity for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to show the world they are serious title contenders.  These are the games the King shows up to play for. Not to say he's on cruise control the ENTIRE season, but in primetime games like tonight you can expect James to take the game into his own hands from the opening tip. He's almost averaged a triple double over his last four games, and scored over 30 real points twice in that span. With a day off and not a far trip from Dallas (last opponent) to San Antonio, I think LeBron comes ready to play and tallies his first triple double of the season.

Gordon Hayward (vs SAC, $7,300)

I told you Gordon Hayward would be here every week he plays on a Thursday. Tonight he has a great matchup against the defenseless Sacramento Kings,  and  is a great play at $7,300, especially for GPP's. Although I think he's a safe play in most formats, he gets a boost in GPP's for his high ceiling. He has scored over 30 FD points in his last three games, and tallied 42.7 last night in Portland. I think his production will keep improving as Jazz players continue to come back from injury. His price is just too low to pass up tonight,  and no one else on the SF list has as good of a match up as he does.

Also consider: Nikola Mirotic (at PHI $5,600)

If you want to save some money and play a little riskier, Mirotic is a great option against the 76ers tonight. Regardless of how close the game is, with Pau out, Mirotic will likely get a boost in minutes against a terrible defense. If his shot is falling he could be a home run pick, but his ceiling has been around 25 points, even when he gets close to 30 minutes of playing time.

Fanduel DFS Power Forwards

Taj Gibson (at PHI, $4,700)

Obviously with Gasol out tonight, picking one of the Chicago bigs is a must. However, I have a feeling that a large chunk of DFSers are going to lean towards Bobby Portis tonight. Although Portis is a great value at $3,500, he has a significantly lower ceiling than Taj. Even when Portis gets over 25 minutes, he hasn't been able to crack 30 FD points in almost a month. Taj on the other hand hit 42 FD points a few games ago against Milwaukee. While he might not match that total, I think he's a really safe play, and has a good chance to be one of the top scoring PF's of the night.

Larry Nance Jr.  (at GSW, $4,400)

You can pretty much just reread what I wrote for Louis Williams.  Nance has been getting pretty consistent minutes, and has reached 5x value (at his current price point) in his last three games. While he likely won't blow you away with any huge numbers, he will almost certainly hit value in this high paced game, and he'll save you a ton of money so you can fit an extra star into your lineup.

Fanduel DFS Centers

Andre Drummond (at MEM, $8,900)

I think Andre Drummond is the Dark Horse high scorer of the night. Now I know it's a long shot with guys like Curry, Lebron, and Cousins available to roster, but just hear me out. The Memphis Grizzlies are a sneaky bad rebounding team. 8th worst in the NBA to be exact. They also have the 4th worst shooting percentage in the entire NBA. O, and they also attempt the 4th fewest three point attempts in the league. Basically, this means there are going to be a lot of misses close to the basket. Andre Drummond should feast on the boards tonight. Gasol, and the now reserve Zach Randolph are not the front court they once were, and Drummond's freakish athleticism should give them issues on both ends all night. Although the pace will be a little slower than Detroit usually plays, I think Drummond reaches 50 FD points, and has one of those nights you do a double take at his rebounding totals.
