Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 5:
Colston Loveland, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland will square off with his division-rival Green Bay Packers on the road in Week 5. Loveland finally got off the schnide last weekend, leading the team with nine targets and compiling a 6/57 line in their win over the Jets. It wasn't world-beating, but it was clear the second-year pro was a point of emphasis. Incidentally, Loveland's usage spiked as wide receiver Kalif Raymond's declined.
If that holds steady, it's a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, it's too early to call for a full-fledged bounceback, but what we saw was at least encouraging. While Green Bay hasn't been an ideal matchup for fantasy tight ends, they're a susceptible unit and rank bottom-10 in points per game (26.3).
Additionally, quarterback Caleb Williams (hamstring) has a chance to be back in the fold this week, which would boost the floor and ceiling for the entire offense. As for Loveland, he lands as this week's PPR TE11 in RotoBaller's ranks.
Dalton Schultz, Houston Texans
Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz had a monster game in Week 2 without Nico Collins, but he has faded the last two weeks and only had two catches last week against the Cowboys in Collins' return to action. Schultz has played 63.4% of snaps this season for the Texans, with backup tight end Foster Moreau logging 40.7% of snaps. Schultz hasn't found the end zone, although he has had multiple catches in each game and has averaged 53.5 yards per game.
That average is skewed by his 140 yards in Week 2, but he is involved enough as a pass-catcher to still bring upside this week in a divisional matchup against the Titans. Tennessee has been a top-10 defense against tight ends this season, but Schultz is still RotoBaller's TE18 this week, indicating he can be a solid second tight end option even though he isn't a strong starter in single-TE formats with Collins back to carry the load.
Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki will take on his former team as the Bengals travel to Miami in Week 5. Gesicki was fantasy relevant again in last week's loss, catching three passes for 40 yards and a touchdown. The veteran tight end now has three touchdowns on the season, catching one in three of the first four games this year.
The one game where he did not catch a touchdown, Gesicki did not have a single reception. While that one goose egg game is concerning, he's been involved in every other game. Gesicki will get the opportunity to be fantasy relevant again in a revenge game against his former team. The Miami Dolphins will host Cincinnati on Sunday in a game where the Bengals are heavy road favorites.
Gesicki will also get the chance to step up in the potential absence of Ja'Marr Chase or Tee Higgins. With both wide receivers questionable, quarterback Joe Burrow should pepper Gesicki with targets throughout the contest. Gesicki is ranked TE19 in our RotoBaller Week 5 PPR rankings, but those rankings may not reflect the uptick in usage he should get without the two wideouts active.
Gesicki should be considered a strong start at the tight end position with enough upside to be in the flex conversation this weekend.
Kenyon Sadiq, New York Jets
New York Jets tight end Kenyon Sadiq came crashing back down to earth against Chicago, failing to catch any of his four targets after his seven-catch, 105-yard breakout against Detroit. The Jets ran only 32 plays, which certainly didn't help, but Sadiq's role could become more complicated this week. Mason Taylor (thumb) practiced fully and is expected to return Sunday after missing the previous two games.
Taylor's presence creates additional competition for snaps and targets, something Sadiq didn't have to deal with during his big Week 3 performance. The rookie has 12 receptions for 143 yards through four games, along with a receiving and rushing touchdown. RotoBaller has dropped him to TE23 in its updated Week 5 rankings.
Sadiq remains worth holding in deeper formats, but with Taylor returning and the offense struggling, he's a difficult player to trust in starting lineups.
Harold Fannin Jr., Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns tight end Harold Fannin Jr. has found the end zone three times over his last two games, recording 10 receptions for 78 yards combined during wins over the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Fannin Jr. finished a Week 4 triumph over Pittsburgh with three receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown and will now take on a New York Jets pass defense that allowed Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland to record six receptions for 57 yards last week. Fannin Jr. is RotoBaller's 10th-ranked tight end and is projected to score eight fantasy points against the Jets this weekend.
