Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:
Ladd McConkey, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey (ribs) is officially listed as questionable to play in his team's Week 2 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. McConkey was forced to exit early from his team's Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals after absorbing a big hit while trying to make a catch over the middle.
The 24-year-old did not practice on either Wednesday or Thursday of this week, but he was able to get back out on the practice field on Friday. McConkey was having an encouraging game against Arizona before getting injured, recording five catches for 82 yards and a touchdown on seven targets.
It seems possible that McConkey's status may not be determined until Sunday, so fantasy managers will need to check back as more updates are released. If McConkey is unable to play, Chargers wideouts Quentin Johnston and Tre' Harris could both be in line for an increase in target share.
Travis Etienne Jr., New Orleans Saints
New Orleans Saints running back Travis Etienne Jr. carried the ball nine times for 46 yards and added a career-high seven receptions for 32 yards in Week 1's overtime loss to the Lions. Without Alvin Kamara in the lineup, Etienne Jr. was on the field for 59% of the snaps but split the carries evenly with Kendre Miller, with nine each.
With Kamara ready to make his season debut against Baltimore, Etienne Jr. will likely continue to split snaps in the backfield, but his presence in the passing game should keep his fantasy value elevated. He goes up against a Ravens defense that just allowed Jonathan Taylor to go off for 121 total yards and two touchdowns. Etienne Jr. sits in the RB2 range and will look to find his first trip to the end zone this week.
Wan'Dale Robinson, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson will face off against the intimidating Philadelphia Eagles secondary in Week 2. The former Giant was immediately involved in his first game with the team, catching five of six targets for 38 yards against the Jets. Robinson played 82% of the offensive snaps and tied rookie Carnell Tate for the team lead in targets.
The production wasn't spectacular, but Robinson's game is built on short-area targets and volume, giving young quarterback Ward a safety-valve outlet. Philadelphia presents an extremely difficult matchup, especially with All-Pro nickel corner Cooper DeJean likely checking Robinson in the slot for this one. Robinson's short-area role should keep him involved even if Ward is forced to get the ball out quickly.
He's usable as a low-end WR3/flex in PPR formats this week, with a safer floor than most of Tennessee's other receivers.
Jonathon Brooks, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks will look for an expanded role in Sunday's Week 2 matchup versus the Atlanta Falcons. Brooks' usage was down in last Sunday's 59-37 loss to the Chicago Bears. The 23-year-old rushed for 14 yards on four carries and caught one of two targets for 48 yards. He was out-touched by backfield teammate Chuba Hubbard, 13 to five, and had 13 offensive snaps compared to Hubbard's 48.
He missed all of last season with a torn ACL and has only logged four games over his three-year career. Brooks should be more involved in Week 2 but is set to back up Hubbard again versus the Falcons. He comes in as RotoBaller's RB44, making him a FLEX play option at best in most leagues for Week 2.
Matthew Golden, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden enters Week 2 with legitimate breakout appeal after commanding a team-high 12 targets in the season opener against Minnesota. Golden turned that volume into six receptions for 95 yards while accounting for 28.6% of Jordan Love's pass attempts, an encouraging sign that his role may have expanded entering Year 2.
The key question is whether that usage holds in a crowded receiving corps if Green Bay's pass volume drops from Love's 42 attempts in Week 1. New York held Tennessee to 140 passing yards in Week 1 and blitzed on 46.2% of its defensive snaps. That aggressive approach could test a Packers offensive line with Aaron Banks and Zach Bako-Bewele both listed as questionable.
The Jets will also be without safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (groin). Golden still has to compete with Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Tucker Kraft for targets, so another 12-target game is far from guaranteed. Even so, his expanded perimeter role gives him enough weekly upside to finish as a WR2. RotoBaller ranks him WR30, and he belongs in the WR3/high-end FLEX range. In DFS, Golden makes sense as a tournament stacking partner with Love.
