Is Justin Herbert out for the season? When is Justin Herbert coming back? The latest Justin Herbert injury update and fantasy football outlook heading into Week 14 of 2025.
Justin Herbert has performed like a top 10 quarterback in fantasy football this season, even if his recent play has been a notch below his early-season form. Still, the Chargers have very talented pass catchers who can elevate Herbert on any given week.
Fantasy managers who have leaned on Herbert throughout the season got a scare in Week 13 when Herbert suffered a hand injury that required surgery. However, Herbert has expressed that he will be ready to go for Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Is Justin Herbert Out for the 2025 Season?
Justin Herbert left the Los Angeles Chargers’ matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders in the first quarter due to a hand injury he suffered while scrambling. Fantasy managers were initially concerned about the injury, but a lot of those worries went away after Herbert returned to the game with a cast in fewer than 10 plays. Herbert ultimately finished the game, throwing a touchdown in a win.
It was shocking, then, when shortly after the game, it was announced that Herbert would be undergoing surgery on his non-throwing hand on Monday. Herbert expressed confidence in his ability to return to the field by Week 14’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

There is a chance that Herbert misses Week 14 against the Eagles. But even if that happens, it seems like his absence would be for only one week, making him available for the fantasy playoffs.
Justin Herbert 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook
2025 has been a great fantasy season for Justin Herbert, even if his scoring has taken a step back as the offensive line has deteriorated around him. He is currently the QB9 in fantasy points per game (19.1), but there are clear drop-offs to his production.
From Weeks 1 to 9, Herbert was the QB4 in fantasy scoring (21.8 PPG) with four games above 25.0 points. However, in his last three games (the Chargers had a bye in Week 12), Herbert is the QB27 while averaging 11.0 PPG. Most of Herbert’s struggles this season can be directly tied to the games that Joe Alt has missed at left tackle.

Thankfully, it does not sound like Herbert will miss much, if any, time with this injury. However, the injury could lead to changes in the offense (less under center and more shotgun), which could be difficult for the offense at this point in the season, given their injuries along the offensive line. There is also an obviously elevated injury risk for Herbert, even if most of it comes down to pain management.
The bigger issue for Herbert in fantasy is his upcoming slate of opponents against his porous offensive line. The Chargers have matchups against the Eagles, Chiefs, Cowboys, and Texans during Week 14 and the fantasy playoffs. A matchup against Houston’s defense in the fantasy playoffs is brutal.
Given the injury and those matchups, it is hard to rank Herbert as a top 15 quarterback for the remainder of the season. He has the talent to beat those odds, but the offensive environment around him has been struggling to overcome injuries.
