Dynasty Fantasy Football Buy or Sell?: Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Bo Nix

Dave Ventresca analyzes if dynasty fantasy football managers should be buying or selling quarterbacks Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Bo Nix in the 2025 offseason.

If you play in a Superflex dynasty fantasy football league, then you know the importance of quarterbacks in this format. Owning elite signal-callers is one of the best ways to build a consistent title contender year in and year out. While they are not quite as important in single-quarterback leagues, having an elite signal-caller can give you a big advantage over the rest of your league.

The 2024 rookie class featured six quarterbacks taken in the first round of the NFL Draft. Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Bo Nix were among those taken in the draft last year. Each showcased their unique abilities and will offer dynasty gamers plenty of upside at the quarterback position. However, should you be buying or selling them when it comes to your dynasty team?

Caleb Williams - Chicago Bears

Williams’ rookie season was not as bad as some believe, but he often held the ball too long, took a lot of sacks, and didn’t always show the best pocket awareness.

It wasn’t all bad, though. He showed some talent as a rusher as well as some unique playmaking ability.

Chicago hired former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to be its new head coach. Johnson did a fantastic job turning around Jared Goff’s career in Detroit and built an offense that catered to his strengths. Chicago has a lot of talent on offense but needed a good offensive mind to bring it all together. Johnson certainly looks like the right man for the job.

Williams has his flaws, but he has a plethora of talent surrounding him and is in good hands with Johnson. If anyone in your league has soured on Williams after one year, go out and get him in a trade. The best is yet to come.

Drake Maye - New England Patriots

Maye didn’t take over as the team’s starting quarterback until Week 6, but he showed a lot of potential throughout the year. What’s most intriguing about Maye’s profile is the rushing upside he showed as a rookie.

New England does not have a lot of talent on offense, so that might limit his fantasy ceiling in the short term. However, it’s a good bet the Patriots will look to add pass-catchers in the NFL Draft and free agency.

Josh McDaniels was hired as the team’s new offensive coordinator and will be responsible for further developing Maye. McDaniels' offenses have had success in the NFL but most of that was with Tom Brady under center. He wasn’t able to get much out of Mac Jones when he was the Patriots quarterback, so we’ll have to see how McDaniels does with Maye.

Maye is certainly a buy candidate based on his rookie year. However, you will likely need to pay up to get him, especially if you’re in a Superflex league. He’s a young quarterback with a legitimate rushing upside. It’s usually better to buy players when their price is discounted, but Maye carries the kind of potential that makes paying a little more worthwhile.

Expect New England to do everything it can to surround its young signal-caller with talent for him to reach his full potential.

Bo Nix - Denver Broncos

Denver’s QB1 enjoyed a fine rookie campaign. He threw for 3,775 yards and 29 touchdowns to go along with 430 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns as well.

Some of his advanced metrics were also solid. Among 47 quarterbacks with at least 100 dropbacks, Nix ranked 18th in catchable throw percentage and 19th in highly accurate throw percentage, per Fantasy Points Data Suite.

Nix is a good player, but KeepTradeCut currently has him ranked as the dynasty QB11. How much higher can he go? The large majority of the signal-callers ranked ahead of him are some of the best quarterbacks in fantasy football. However, he did finish as the QB7 in 2024, so a top-5 finish is not out of the question.

Nix may have reached his ceiling at QB11. If that’s the case, it might not be the worst idea to sell high. But keep in mind this is a young quarterback tied to one of the best offensive coaches in the game for the foreseeable future. He could eventually grow into one of the game’s best quarterbacks. Either way, if you’re going to sell, make sure you get a good return.
