Spencer Turnbull has taken advantage of an open rotation spot and delivered early results for fantasy managers. He is worth an add in 12+ team fantasy baseball leagues as a waiver wire option.

ANALYSIS: Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Spencer Turnbull was non-tendered after a tumultuous 2023 season with the Tigers but has provided excellent early returns for the Phillies on a one-year pact.
Through three starts, Turnbull sports a 1.88 ERA and a 26.2% K% in 15 innings of work. All three of his earned runs surrendered came in his last start when he allowed four hits, including a homer, while issuing four walks in four innings against the Pirates. He has seen an uptick in strikeouts this season but it's worth noting that his 9.4% swinging strike rate is actually below his 10.5% career mark while the uptick is due to an increased 20.4% called strike rate.
You genuinely could not have asked for a better Phillies debut than what Spencer Turnbull just completed.

The right-hander can ill afford to have many more outings like the one against the Pirates as Taijuan Walker (shoulder) is currently on a rehab assignment. Turnbull was originally booked for long relief but Walker's injury opened up a rotation spot, in which Turnbull has taken advantage.
Keep in mind he owned a 2.88 ERA, including a no-hitter, in nine starts in 2021 before needing Tommy John surgery that wiped out his 2022 campaign. He struggled in limited action last season but looks to be back in form this time around. Even with Walker nearing a return, it's unlikely the Phillies remove Turnbull from the rotation given his overall body of work to begin the season. He's worth an add in 12+ team leagues as a result.
