Should I Pickup Darrell Henderson Jr.? Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlook

Darrell Henderson Jr. - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Should I pickup Darrell Henderson Jr. for fantasy football Week 8? Read the Darrell Henderson Jr. fantasy football waiver wire outlook, advice for adding him off waivers.

Los Angeles Rams running back Darrell Henderson Jr. was the 70th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Henderson had an impressive college career, totaling 431 rushing attempts for 3,545 yards and 36 touchdowns in three years at Memphis. He also had 63 receptions for 758 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in college.

The former Tiger star had a limited rookie season, totaling 39 rushing attempts for 147 yards and zero touchdowns. Henderson also had only four receptions on six targets for 37 receiving yards in 2019. However, he was better over the next two years.

Henderson had 287 rushing attempts for 1,312 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in 2020 and 2021. The former Memphis star had 45 receptions on 64 targets for 335 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 27 games. However, he struggled last season, totaling 70 rushing attempts for 283 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games with the Rams.

What Did Darrell Henderson Jr. Accomplish In Week 7?

When Los Angeles lost Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers to injuries in Week 6, the Rams signed Henderson to their practice squad. The move was somewhat surprising, given that the team released him roughly halfway through the 2022 season.

More importantly, the veteran running back earned the starting role against the Pittsburgh Steelers despite being on his couch the week before. Yet, Henderson played well in his season debut, totaling 18 rushing attempts for 61 yards and a touchdown. The former Memphis star was the RB15 in Week 7, scoring 13.1 half-point PPR fantasy points.

Should I Pickup Darrell Henderson Jr.?

While he had an impressive performance in Week 7, Henderson split the backfield work with Royce Freeman. Neither running back had a rushing attempt before last week’s matchup against the Steelers. Yet, Henderson had more snaps (39-29), routes run (12-7) and total opportunities (20-12) compared to Freeman.

Fantasy players should have the former Memphis star as their top priority off the waiver wire. The Rams want to run the ball and will be without Williams for at least three more games. However, Henderson doesn’t have a fantasy-friendly matchup in Week 8.

The Dallas Cowboys have held running backs to only 15.1 fantasy points per game, the seventh-fewest in the NFL. Henderson should have a decent performance against the Cowboys. However, fantasy players should temper their expectations if they must start the veteran running back.
