Joe Burrow - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News - icon rotoballer

Fantasy football injury updates and injury reports for quarterbacks (Week 3) as of 9/21/2023, including QBs Joe Burrow, Anthony Richardson, Lamar Jackson, and more.

Only two weeks of NFL football have wrapped up, yet there is no shortage of stud fantasy football quarterbacks dealing with bumps and bruises. These injuries will especially hurt fantasy managers in superflex or two-QB leagues, so make sure to stay in the know regarding your key players. Our fantasy football injury reports for quarterbacks as of Thursday, September 21 will give you the latest news on the statuses of Joe Burrow, Anthony Richardson, Lamar Jackson, and more.

Being up-to-date on NFL injury news can give you an edge over your league mates in fantasy football. Now that the regular season has begun, fantasy managers should stay locked into the latest injury headlines.

Joe Burrow Injury Update

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (calf) has apparently been feeling better the last few days after aggravating his strained calf in Sunday's Week 2 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, per Mike Garafolo. The Bengals play on Monday night so they won't begin practicing until Thursday so the extra day of rest should help Burrow, Garafolo noted.

While it's encouraging to hear that he's feeling better, this calf issue is likely to linger throughout the season. To make matters worse, NFL insider Ian Rapoport noted that "we are not going to get a 100% healthy Joe Burrow, probably for some time" while speaking on Good Morning Football on Wednesday morning.

This could just come down to pain tolerance for the fourth-year quarterback. However, even if he's able to tough it out and play through the pain, he's not nearly as effective as a passer with a bum calf. The Bengals will release their practice report on Thursday but fantasy managers that roster Burrow would be wise to have a backup plan in case Cincinnati decides to rest their franchise QB in favor of backup Jake Browning on MNF against the Los Angeles Rams.

Anthony Richardson Injury Update

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol, according to head coach Shane Steichen. This obviously means that the rookie QB did not practice on Wednesday and this puts his status for Sunday's Week 3 contest against the Baltimore Ravens in doubt.

Richardson sustained the concussion after hitting his head on the turf while scoring his second rushing touchdown of the game during Sunday's Week 2 win over the Houston Texans. Fantasy managers should monitor his practice status closely over the next few days. However, if he remains in protocol heading into the weekend, he likely won't play, so having a backup plan is recommended. Gardner Minshew would fill in as the Colts' starting QB if Richardson is unable to suit up.

Lamar Jackson Injury Update

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (hand) wasn't listed on the Week 3 injury report on Wednesday. Jackson suffered a minor left-hand injury in the Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. It's no surprise that he isn't listed with an injury designation to begin the practice week ahead of a home matchup against the Indianapolis Colts this weekend.

Jackson has thrown for 406 yards on 55 attempts (career-high 74.5 completion percentage) through two weeks against the Texans and Bengals with two touchdowns and one interception through the air. He'll get a vulnerable Colts defense this week and will once again be a high-end QB1 for fantasy managers.

C.J. Stroud Injury Update

Houston Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud (shoulder) was listed as a limited practice participant on Wednesday with a right-shoulder injury. Stroud doesn't appear to be in any danger of missing the Week 3 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road this Sunday. The 21-year-old first-rounder has been the most impressive of the rookie signal-callers through two weeks, and he's coming off an eye-opening performance in the Week 2 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in which he threw for 384 yards and two touchdowns on 47 pass attempts.

Stroud is certainly going to have his ups and downs in his rookie season in the NFL, but we've liked what we've seen from him so far. He'll remain a low-end QB2 in fantasy with upside in a tougher matchup this weekend in Jacksonville.

Bryce Young Injury Update

Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday because of an ankle injury. The 2023 No. 1 overall pick has been sacked six times in two games to begin his NFL career and is already feeling the bumps and bruises.

The 22-year-old has thrown for just 299 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions so far and is averaging a putrid 4.2 yards per attempt. Hopefully, he won't miss time moving forward, but he is not on the fantasy radar either way.
