Hyun Jin Ryu To Have Season-Ending Surgery
Hyun Jin Ryu (elbow) is having elbow surgery and will miss the rest of the season, according to general manager Ross Atkins. It's not clear if Ryu will have a full Tommy John surgery or just a partial revision, but either way, he won't pitch again in 2022. If he has the fully Tommy John operation, the left-hander will miss at least half of next year as well. It's a disappointing end to the 35-year-old southpaw's season, as he wasn't very good in his six starts for Toronto before the injury, posting a 5.67 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 16 strikeouts and four walks in 27 innings pitched. Fantasy managers can obviously go ahead and drop Ryu to the waiver wire in single-year formats now.
