Welcome back, RotoBallers, to my PGA DFS Pivots for DraftKings! This week, the PGA event is The Mexico Open.
The tour heads south of the border to Mexico this week. John Rahm highlights the field this week that is below average in total. This is also the first time this course has held a PGA Tour event and that brings some unknowns.
With so many unknowns it can be advantageous to get contrarian and not fall into the trap of relating highly owned golfers to security. Making correct pivot plays this week will be vital to your DFS success.

Mexico Open: DFS Lineup Pivots
Pivot Off: Abraham Ancer ($10,300) – Abraham Ancer is currently projected to be one of the highest owned golfers in the field. Ancer has not played well as of late. He arrives in Mexico off two missed cuts and has not finished better than 33rd-place this year. Although he was born in Texas, Ancer was raised in Mexico. If Ancer was not from Mexico would he be this highly owned? His current form is not great, he has a high salary, and this is the first time we are seeing this course. These factors may identify that narratives are the reason for his ownership. Playing well in your home country and motivation are unquantifiable narratives that can get some into trouble in DFS. This seems like a great spot to capitalize on Ancer’s high ownership and pivot off him.
Top Mexico Open DFS Pivot Plays
Patrick Reed ($10,000) – Patrick Reed is currently projected to be in the single digits ownership-wise. Reed has not played well this year. Before The Players, he recorded three straight missed cuts. He played well at The Players, thanks to the putter. He also showed some form at The Masters where he finished in 35th-place. Reed's very recent form, low ownership, and back class could present some upside this week. He is the ultimate GPP play. It is also a similar situation to the Bermuda Championship last October. Reed finished second that week at low ownership and came in with terrible form.
Cameron Tringale ($9,700) – Tringale had a nice showing at Harbour Town. He recorded a top 15-place finish. He gained three strokes tee-to-green along with 2.5 on approach in Hilton Head. Similarly to Reed, Tringale is projected to be in the single digits. Tringale is sandwiched between a very popular Gary Woodland and Aaron Wise. This will help in making Tringale a contrarian play. Lastly, he ranks sixth in the field on approach over the last 24 rounds.

Sahith Theegala ($8,800) – If this course does play long and has wide fairways that should really benefit Sahith Theegala. Theegala is not arriving in great form. He has lost strokes tee-to-green in two straight starts. However, I am willing to chalk that up to poor course fit. Harbour Town is not a course that Theegala may find comfortable. This week may be different and with his low ownership, he could present some nice upside.
Joeseph Bramlett ($7,100) – Joeseph Bramlett is currently projected to be in the low single digits. Bramlett has played better than his results have shown of late. He gained 3.7 strokes off-the-tee at a tight Harbour Town. He also gained strokes on approach at the Valspar and Valero. Over his last 24 rounds, he ranks eight in ball striking, 28th on approach, and 14th in opportunities gained. This course is likely to play long as well, and that should benefit one of the longest hitters on tour.
