Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 6:
Jayden Daniels, QB, Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels returned to action in Week 5 against the Chargers after missing two games with a knee injury. Daniels didn't miss a beat in Washington's road win in Los Angeles, completing 15 of 26 passes for 231 yards and a touchdown while adding 39 yards on the ground on eight rushes.
The second-year quarterback was a bit rusty on his first couple of drives, but quickly settled in and looked like the same dynamic player that took the league by storm last year with one of the best rookie quarterback seasons of all time. Daniels and Washington will face the Bears off a bye in Week 6 in a rematch of their memorable game last season, which dramatically ended on a Hail Mary.
It's an exploitable matchup versus a Chicago defense that is allowing nearly 30 points per game and a league-worst 6.7 yards per play. Daniels will rank as the top quarterback in fantasy in what could be a shootout on Monday night.
Justin Herbert, QB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has a good chance to get the team back on track this week against the Miami Dolphins, who have one of the weakest defenses in the league heading into Sunday. Despite leading the team in rushing last week and being one of the top passers during the Chargers' early wins, Herbert's production has slowed due to injuries along the offensive line, taking 35 hits in the last three games.
Critical penalties and the absence of Joe Alt (ankle) and Trey Pipkins (knee) continue to put pressure on Herbert. The Dolphins' defense ranks last in average rushing yards allowed. Still, the Chargers will be deploying backups Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal this week after Omarion Hampton (ankle) was placed on IR.
The offense should lean more on the passing game and its proven weapons, but keep an eye on Quentin Johnston, who was limited all week with a hamstring injury and is questionable for Sunday. RotoBaller projects Herbert as the QB6 this week, making him a reliable high-end QB1 despite the offensive challenges around him.
Baker Mayfield, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (knee, arm) was removed from the injury report ahead of the Week 6 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Mayfield has been nursing some minor injuries, but will be fine for this weekend.
Last week, Mayfield threw for a season-high 379 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions in the win over the Seattle Seahawks.
The Bucs are banged up on offense with Bucky Irving (foot), Mike Evans (hamstring), and Chris Godwin (leg) likely all out this weekend. Despite that, Mayfield will find a way to succeed and remain an elite QB1 play.
Caleb Williams, QB, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will look to continue his strong sophomore campaign coming out of the bye week. Through his first four games, the No. 1 overall pick has completed 81 of 130 passes for 927 yards and eight touchdowns with just two interceptions, ranking as the QB6 during that stretch.
Under new head coach Ben Johnson, Williams has started to showcase his full potential, helping Chicago ride a two-game win streak into Week 6. The 2024 first-overall pick will face the second-overall pick in Jayden Daniels on Monday Night Football, in what should be an exciting primetime matchup.
The Commanders' defense has struggled to contain opposing quarterbacks, allowing the ninth-most fantasy points to the position and surrendering 20+ point outings to Geno Smith, Michael Penix Jr., and Jordan Love. With a favorable matchup and the potential for a shootout, Williams remains a locked-in QB1 for Week 6.
Jared Goff, QB, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has been a productive player through five weeks this season, recording 1,187 passing yards and 12 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions.
However, he may be a quarterback for fantasy managers to move away from in a difficult Week 6 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have allowed the ninth-fewest passing yards (999) and fourth-fewest number of passing touchdowns (five) in the NFL so far this season.
Additionally, Goff could be without starting left tackle Taylor Decker (shoulder), which may limit Detroit's ability to push the ball downfield. In two-quarterback formats, Goff still profiles as a solid QB2, but he may be a player to avoid in Week 6 in single-QB leagues.
