Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 4:
DeVonta Smith, WR, Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith recorded a season high eight receptions on nine targets for 60 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 33-26 win over the Los Angeles Rams. Based on game flow, the Eagles were forced into a pass-happy game script as they trailed the Rams the entire second half. Smith and his counterpart, A.J. Brown, were the biggest beneficiaries, as we saw Hurts throw the ball 32 times, by far the most this season.
Although it was an excellent afternoon for the Eagles' pass catchers and Smith specifically, it's hard to trust him as a consistent WR2 due to the nature of this Eagles offense. They are a run-first team, which means the opportunities for Smith will not likely be there every week. Smith had as many targets on Sunday as he did in the first two weeks combined.
Up next for the Eagles is a road battle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which, on paper, should set up to be an entertaining game, and one that requires the Eagles to throw like they did last Sunday, making Smith a low-end WR2 in Week 4.
Breece Hall, RB, New York Jets
New York Jets running back Breece Hall failed to make an impact in Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, totaling 21 yards on nine totes and an additional 31 through the air on 4-of-6 receiving.
With New York pigeon-holing itself into a game plan centered around short passes, the 24-year-old couldn't get anything going on the ground, marking his second straight outing with fewer than 30 rushing yards. Perhaps even more concerning, he's losing out on playing time due to his ineffectiveness as a pass blocker.
Hall is a talented runner, and his receiving work should keep him in the RB2 mix more often than not. However, sharing his workload in an unstable Jets offense means his fantasy floor -- and ceiling -- are lower than in seasons past. He'll try to rebound in a dream Week 4 meeting with the lowly Dolphins' rush defense.
Kenneth Walker III, RB, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald was not pleased with the team's rushing performance in their Week 3 blowout win over the visiting New Orleans Saints on Sunday. "It's not good enough.
It's not even close to being good enough," Macdonald said. Running back Kenneth Walker III had 16 carries for only 38 yards, but he made up for it by scoring twice. Backup George Holani had 10 carries for only 27 yards with Zach Charbonnet (foot) inactive. While Walker's fantasy managers were pleased by his two-touchdown performance with Charbonnet out of the picture on Sunday, Macdonald's comments don't bode well for Walker's workload going forward if he continues to be inefficient on the ground.
The 24-year-old averaged under 3.0 yards a carry in Weeks 1 and 3 while going for 8.1 yards a tote in a big Week 2 performance. When Charb returns (possibly in Week 4), Walker could see even fewer carries.
