Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks

Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 16:

Michael Wilson, WR, Arizona Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson has made fantasy managers who scooped him up off the waiver wire look really good in the last five weeks. Wilson's strong run has coincided with appendix and heel injuries to Marvin Harrison Jr. that have kept him sidelined in four of the last five contests. In the first two games that Harrison missed following an appendectomy, Wilson went off for 25 catches and 303 yards on 33 targets. The last two weeks with Harrison out with a heel issue, the 25-year-old has caught 16 of 27 targets for 196 yards and three touchdowns.

He has seen double-digit targets in all four games that Harrison has missed. When Harrison returned in the Week 13 loss to the Bucs, Wilson caught just three passes for 36 yards. Wilson's ceiling will come down if Harrison returns this Sunday against the Falcons, but if Harrison misses a third straight game, Wilson will be a no-brainer, must-start WR1 in fantasy.

Jakobi Meyers, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was an excellent acquisition by the Jags at this year's trade deadline, as he's become their No. 1 wideout. In the last five weeks, Meyers is the WR12 in half-PPR scoring with 24 catches on 35 targets for 314 yards and three touchdowns. The 29-year-old broke a three-game touchdown streak in Sunday's blowout victory over the New York Jets, but he still had a healthy five catches on seven targets for 71 yards.

The week prior in the big win over the Indianapolis Colts, Meyers had double-digit targets for the third time all year and the first time since being traded from the Raiders to the Jaguars. Meyers has helped unlock Jacksonville's offense in the second half of the season. He went from averaging 50.3 yards per game and 7.2 yards per target in seven contests with the Raiders to 59.2 yards per game and 9.3 yards per target in six games with the Jags. Meyers will have a big test in Week 16 against the Broncos defense, but he'll still have WR2 upside in fantasy.

Troy Franklin, WR, Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos wide receiver Troy Franklin was one of the biggest surprises of Week 15, going for six catches, 85 yards, and a touchdown in a victory against Green Bay, though changes could be coming. Franklin's increase in targets was correlated to the absence of fellow wide receiver Pat Bryant (hamstring), who was unavailable last week but practiced in full on Wednesday and looks likely to return for Week 16 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Franklin is a top-30 PPR receiver on the season, but he's been a boom-or-bust player throughout. He has three top-10 finishes among receivers, but five outside the top 50. Against a Jags' defense that ranks 20th against fantasy receivers, Franklin has a quality matchup, but remains a volatile option prone to big swings in production.

Ladd McConkey, WR, Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey had another quiet game in the team's 16-13 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, catching just two passes for 20 yards and posting one of his lowest target shares of the season at 11.5%. Despite ranking near the top of the league in routes run, McConkey's production has declined as the Chargers shift to a run-heavy offense to compensate for offensive line issues and an injured Justin Herbert.

Even with Quentin Johnston out, McConkey saw fewer targets and no red-zone targets, as opportunities were distributed elsewhere. Week 16 offers a potential rebound against a Dallas Cowboys secondary that ranks last in passing yards and touchdowns allowed, but game script remains a concern. McConkey remains a volatile, low-end WR2 with upside in a possibly favorable matchup.

Adonai Mitchell, WR, New York Jets

New York Jets wide receiver Adonai Mitchell scored the second touchdown of his career in Week 15 against the Jaguars, catching six of nine targets for 58 yards. Even with undrafted rookie Brady Cook at quarterback, Mitchell earned another nine targets on Cook's 33 pass attempts. Excluding his first game with the Jets, where he played only 49.1% of the snaps, the second-year wideout ranks as the WR20 in PPR points in four games since joining the team.

He's played 85.4% of the snaps, ranking 10th among all wide receivers in targets (33) and posting the highest air yards share (53.4%) in the league over that span. The quarterback situation will limit his ceiling, but Mitchell is flashing the upside that fantasy managers want to see. It'll be a challenge for Mitchell to produce on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, who have now strung together five straight games where they've held the opposing quarterback to under 200 passing yards. He is in flex consideration for Week 16.

Improvements For Who Should I Start? You may have noticed that our 'Who Should I Start?' tool has gotten an overhaul. We've added lots of great features for you to give you as much information as possible to win your fantasy football matchups each week. You'll see NFL player tiles with headshots and bye weeks, stats, projections, strength of schedule, players news, and enhanced search results with data to compare with a slick new interface. How It Works. Each week our RotoBaller staff puts together their weekly fantasy football rankings and projections based on their research.
