Who Should I Start for Fantasy Football Week 17? Jerry Jeudy, Ray-Ray McCloud III, Wan'Dale Robinson

Jerry Jeudy - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

Who should I start for Week 17? Fantasy football outlooks for Jerry Jeudy, Ray-Ray McCloud III, Wan'Dale Robinson, Wan'Dale Robinson. Our expert fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks.

There are plenty of wide receivers you should start every week in fantasy football. There are also plenty you shouldn't start. But for those in very deep leagues, there's always the puzzling challenge in front of you of picking which "bad" players to start.

When there are more rosters and more active roster spots to fill, it becomes much more difficult to find consistently productive players. Even heavily touchdown-dependent boom-bust players are scarce, leaving fantasy managers to find players with even slight upside.

Let's look at three WRs no one's particularly excited about in Week 17.

Should I Start Jerry Jeudy for Fantasy Football?

Sometimes, it helps to look at the organization as a whole and see what they're trying to do. If you do that, you can recognize that Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (knee, shin) is not a good player to start in Week 17. The problem is that the Browns are simply tanking.

No team that has any interest in winning would start quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (calf). Yet that's exactly what Cleveland is doing. And Jeudy caught just two passes for 20 yards on three targets last week. DTR has played badly this year, and all the Browns receivers' fantasy values have tanked accordingly.

The 40.5 PPR point explosion Jeudy authored in Week 13 already seems like so long ago. Without QB Jameis Winston running things, JJ is a bench-worthy player. And he's dealing with multiple injuries, so even if he plays, his athleticism could be hampered.

Should I Start Ray-Ray McCloud III for Fantasy Football?

Probably not. He plays a ton of offensive snaps (91% last week) but doesn't get enough targets. He had four passes thrown his way in Week 16, catching three for just 19 yards. There have been some hiccups with new starting QB Michael Penix Jr. (cough cough - his receivers can't catch).

He's had some nice moments, but he's really never had consistency.

Should I Start Wan'Dale Robinson for Fantasy Football?

We also don't recommend you start New York Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson either. He's one of the greatest PPR scam players in history. For some reason, the Giants have made a habit out of force-feeding him the ball, even though it's resulted in a ton of failures to move the chains and plenty of punts.

The above chart shows his EPA, or "Expected Points Added", which is a statistic that measures how a player's performance adds to their team's ability to score on any given play. Passes that fail to reach the sticks, pick up a first down on crucial plays, or pick up just a fraction of the down-and-distance left are typically negative EPA plays.

And it's easy to see why if you look at the routes that he got targeted on. He runs a ridiculous number of short routes, getting fed the ball very near the line of scrimmage, then often simply fails to make tacklers miss or pick up extra yardage. Perhaps he just hasn't been the same since tearing his ACL.

And that wouldn't be surprising, considering his strength has been his short-area quickness. Perhaps his knee simply can't help him change direction as quickly as he used to. When a player's only strength becomes a weakness, they usually don't deserve a spot in your lineups.

But in PPR, purely based on target volume, he does have a spot in deeper leagues. 12 targets are absurd, and he should never see that many passes, but blame head coach Brian Daboll. Or appreciate him.
