Week 7 Quarterback (QB) Rankings Analysis

By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)

Last week I talked about how I didn’t really differ much from the consensus at the QB position. This week the differences start at the top where I have Cam Newton at QB1. Newton already has two top-three finishes on the season and sits at QB4 in points per game. Newton’s opponent the Eagles have allowed 277 passing yards per game. Even if Cam hits 250 yards passing he has a great chance for a top five day thanks to his mobility.

I am also pretty high on Drew Brees at QB2. He has averaged 17.6 points in three games since missing Week 3 with an injury. This is arguably a better matchup than any of those games and if both Brees and Andrew Luck play up to expectations you have to think they will be slinging the ball downfield all game. I love the upside of both quarterbacks in this game  but I actually favor Brees because he’s shown us more this season. Both are in my top 5 though.

There aren’t too many quarterbacks I am particularly low on. Ryan Tannehill is one of them. The matchup isn’t bad but despite a respectable game in Week 6 I’m not ready to assume a coaching change has fixed all of this offenses issues. Tannehill has exceeded 15 points just once this season and I think other quarterbacks offer more upside.

One of those offering more upside this week is Ryan Fitzpatrick. While he too has only had one game above 15 fantasy points, his ceiling so far has been extremely high with 13 points being Fitzmagic’s worst game. With one of the best 1-2 punches in the league at WR and a matchup that will likely force the Jets to throw a ton (Patriots opponents average 38 pass attempts per game) I expect a really nice game from Fitz this week.
