UEFA Euro 2024 Fantasy: Beginner's Guide - Tips, Chips, and Rules

Soccer - Euro 2024, fantasy preview

A "how to play" guide to the UEFA Euro 2024 fantasy game, including rules, scoring, chips, tips, and strategy ahead of Euro 2024. Find out all the details here.

Happy Euro 2024, RotoBallers! Now that the domestic seasons have concluded for the European leagues, it's time to turn our attention to the international summer tournament, Euro 2024. The game is already live, so it's time to buckle down and figure out how to win the whole thing.

The tournament kicks off on June 14 as host nation Germany welcomes Scotland to Group A. Then, across 30 days, you will select your team with the goal of fantasy glory. Whether you are a first-time rookie or a seasoned veteran, our all-star soccer writers are here to help you through a month of nonstop soccer action.

The fantasy game is just one of the many exciting aspects we'll cover for Euro 2024. Stay tuned for our group previews and DFS coverage for every slate on the schedule. And remember to join our league with the code h2MtmX to go head-to-head with us from June 14 to July 14. It's a battle of wits and strategy, so bring your A-game. Good luck, everyone!

How Does UEFA Euro 2024 Fantasy Work?

From June 14 to July 14, 24 nations will battle to be crowned Euro 2024 champion. During that month, there will be seven matchdays. Those matchdays correspond to the three games for each country in the group stages, then the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final.

The lineup construction is precisely the same as that of the Fantasy Premier League, with a €100M budget to buy two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders, and three forwards. However, also like FPL, you can't load up your team with two or three countries. There are limits to how many players from each country can be selected.

Round Matchday Max Players/Country
Group Stage 1-3 3
Round of 16 4 4
Quarter-finals 5 5
Semi-finals 6 6
Final 7 8

UEFA Euro 2024 Fantasy Schedule

There will be seven matchday deadlines across Euro 2024. This will lock in the team responsible for scoring your fantasy points across the corresponding matchday.

Gameweek Date Time (EDT)
Matchday 1 June 14 3:00 p.m.
Matchday 2 June 19 9:00 a.m.
Matchday 3 June 23 3:00 p.m.
Round of 16 June 29 Noon
Quarter-finals July 05 Noon
Semi-finals July 09 3:00 p.m.
Final July 14 3:00 p.m.

Scoring

The aim of the game is to score points, and below is a list of how our Euro 2024 fantasy heroes will go about accruing said points. Transfers

Not everything will go according to plan in UEFA Euro 2024 Fantasy, so you'll want to change up your squad now and then. Fortunately, the game provides transfers. The number of transfers per matchday grows throughout the tournament to give you a better chance of fielding a whole team. However, if you want to go over your transfer limit, it'll cost you four points per transfer.

Round Transfers
Pre-tournament Unlimited
Group Stage 2 per matchday
Round of 16 Unlimited
Quarter-finals 3
Semi-finals 4
Final 5

Captains and Substitutions

In FPL, you select your Captain for the week, and that is that. However, in Euro 2024 Fantasy, you can switch your Captain after every matchday if you don't love how the player with the armband performs. If you've ever played UEFA Champions League Fantasy, it's the same system for this tournament.

You'll also be able to make substitutions if you don't like the performances from the starting XI. Again, this is different than FPL, but it is the same system as Champions League fantasy uses. So, if Phil Foden only grabs you two points in the first game against Serbia, you can bring one of your substitutes off the bench for the following day of games. The points your replacement scores will be added to your team, and it'll be like Foden never saw the pitch.

Chips

Fantasy managers for Euro 2024 will get two chips in the tournament, and they can be played anytime, just not in the same matchday. However, if you plan out your chip strategy, there will be an optimal strategy to consider when building your Matchday 1 squad. Once again, Champions League fantasy game veterans will be familiar with this strategy.

Wildcard

Euro 2024 fantasy managers will be allowed to totally reset their squads. If Matchday 1 doesn't go as we all wanted, we can activate the wildcard and bring in an entirely new 15 players free of charge.

Limitless

Euro 2024 fantasy managers will be given an unlimited budget to field a squad of 15 players for one matchday. After the matchday has concluded, their team will be reset to the original 15 players before activating the Limitless chip.

Strategy

If Euro 2024 fantasy managers play their cards right, they could have four entirely new squads for the first four matchdays. Other managers may wait to use the chips later in the tournament, but here is an initial strategy to build around.

Round Chip/Transfers
Pre-tournament Unlimited
Matchday 2 Limitless
Matchday 3 Wildcard
Round of 16 Unlimited
Quarter-finals 3
Semi-finals 4
Final 5

It could be pretty time-intensive to use your chips early in the tournament, but resetting your 15 players for each group game would be fun, depending on form and potential matchups.
