Top Fantasy Football Dynasty Players For Each Team: AFC West

Patrick Mahomes - Fantasy Football Rankings, DFS Lineup Picks, NFL Injury News

Ellis Johnson selects the most valuable dynasty fantasy football player on each AFC West team for the 2024 season. These are the star players you want to have.

We are less than two months away from the NFL kickoff. This season there are a lot of exciting fantasy rookies joining the dynasty scene. It's also the first season where some head-coaching stalwarts won't be calling the shots. It might be odd not to see Bill Belichick or Pete Carroll on the sidelines, and yet see Jim Harbaugh rejoin the NFL coaching scene.

In this series of articles, I will highlight who I believe is the most valuable dynasty player on each NFL team. I’ll divide the teams by division and break down the situation that may impact these players in the future.

Today we're breaking down the top dynasty players in the AFC West. This division is filled with the current Super Bowl champions, two teams struggling to stay afloat, and a legendary coach pairing with one of the NFL's most talented QBs. These teams have a little of everything, so let's see who's the most valuable!

Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes (QB, KC)

You have the best QB in the NFL on the best team in the NFL, and of course, the answer here is Mahomes. The Chiefs are the newest team labeled as a dynasty and they do not show any signs of stopping.

This offseason, they extended Travis Kelce for another two years and Andy Reid through 2029. After these moves, it’s clear the gang will be back together for a long time.

Although last season was relatively disappointing for fantasy, Mahomes has shown league-breaking fantasy production. After selecting Xavier Worthy in the first round, adding Marquise Brown this offseason, and the breakout of Rashee Rice last season, Mahomes should get back to fantasy stardom. If you have Mahomes in dynasty, enjoy the ride of having the latest great QB for their entire career.

Las Vegas Raiders

Brock Bowers (TE, LV)

Probably the only tight end to make this list and one of the few rookies, Brock Bowers is set up to explode onto the fantasy scene. A year after rookie TEs took the league by storm, Bowers became the best TE prospect since the illustrious Kyle Pitts. Many believe he is a better prospect than Pitts was.

Unfortunately, Bowers finds himself on a directionless Raiders team that spent a second-round pick on Michael Mayer last season. Although Mayer shouldn’t impact Bowers too much, it’s odd for a team to spend this kind of draft capital on the TE position.

With Davante Adams edging toward the end of his career, there is a path to becoming the team's top target in a year or two. If Bowers can find his way to a decent rookie season, he’ll be set up to grow with a team that should draft a new QB as early as 2025.

Denver Broncos

Bo Nix (QB, DEN)

Much like the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, and Tennessee Titans, Bo Nix makes the list out of necessity. The Broncos are slowly clawing their way back to NFL relevance after completing what is likely the worst trade in NFL history.

The first major step to turning this team around was drafting Nix with the 12th pick in this year’s draft. Although his profile is not the most conducive to fantasy production, he should be locked in as the team’s starter for the foreseeable future. That alone makes him very valuable in dynasty leagues.

Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert (QB, LAC)

Herbert is such a good player. If you haven’t watched him in a while, go watch his highlights. Herbert is one of those QBs that was probably created in a lab. With a high football IQ and great physical traits, Herbert is not afraid to squeeze the ball into any window.

This team now has Jim Harbaugh commanding the team and hopefully getting the most out of Herbert. Unfortunately for fantasy, Harbaugh is notorious for running the ball. Despite this, I expect Herbert to pick up what he will lose in volume with his efficiency.

The worry for Herbert in fantasy is that his surrounding team does not provide a lot of fantasy confidence. With Gus Edwards, J.K. Dobbins, and Kimani Vidal out of the backfield and a receiving trio of Joshua Palmer, Ladd McConkey, and Quentin Johnston, it’s hard to have a lot of confidence. Hopefully, Herbert’s natural ability can raise all boats to fantasy glory.
